Most fast-food restaurants now offer vegetarian options on their menus. However, they may not be marked as such. The fact is that unfortunately, Vegetarian specific food doesn't sell as well as the common beef burgers, chicken nuggets etc. However, the situation is improving immensely. If anybody lives in a country other than the UK we will be most grateful if you contact us and explain the vegetarian options available to you. KFC used to sell what they called a Vegetarian Twister which was wrapped in a tortilla and was exceptionally nice. However, it turned out hat this wasn't actually suitable for Vegetarians and was therefore dropped from the menu.
Near my home, there's Quiznos that has an incredible Veggie sub. And Chipotle offers all of their burrito options in veggie as well. Either one of these places will take the cheese out too, so you could go vegan love, mom
careful of the beans: Baja Fresh (another 'rito chain) has pork in tehg pintos...have to get black beans.
i used to love to eat at a taco place we have here... i would always order a bean burrito or the vegetarian dinner... after years of eating there i found out they put lard in the bean mix... i almost threw up when i found out... after that i never eat cooked things at fast foods or restaurants, even if they say it's vegetarian... i just dont trust, i'll only have salads
I am not a big fan of fast food at all. I prefer to cook my own meals. The only "fast food" place I go to isnt technically fast food, but I like to eat at Moe's.....The ones I go to cook their veggies adn tofu on a different gril than the meat grill and dont use animal fat or anything like that, and me and my omnivore buddies can go there.
the veggie delight at subway is great. i get italian herb and cheese bread, tomatoes, lettuce, banana peppers, sweet onion sauce. oh yeah...cheees too
most refried beans have lard in them..better read labels...even if u buy canned refried beans..brands like goya or la prefarita all have lard in them...it's better to buy ur own and soak and refry or buy the whole black beans in a can and mash them yourself..
some dehydrated ones do, too! I was in a restaurant in the middle of no where and asked about lard & they said no. One smell and I asked to see the box. THIRD ingredient.
Yep having a deadly allergy to pork, I had to check for lard ALLLL the time even before I was vegetarian! And it is everywhere. Right now I've got a few cans of La Preferida refried beans... just water, beans & salt. And last week I finished my last can of Amy's Organics. There are okay beans out there, but you've gotta hunt for them. And in restaurants, it's just easier to ask for black beans... something I am just now learning to stomach. love, mom
I like subway myself sometimes I'm a bit naughty and go to Hungry Jacks aka Burger King and get a veggie burger on a whopper bun but veeie burgers arent gaurunteed because sometimes they cook them on the same stuff as meat... but from what I've seen they deep fry them, not grill them
Go to your nearest asian supermarket you can get beans (everyone type imaginable are available in my local asian supermarket) and soak them yourself.
homeschoolmama, I think black/turtles are better. try 'em with lime and cilantro and oodles of spice. even tamarind is nice. my cool fast food story: was on assignment yesterday covering a task force that will review and probably rewrite the communiity's prairie dog control policy ( the area is urban and the buggers breed and eat too much for the land available. THey are removed to the black-footed ferret program as food as the BFF is very endangered, the black-taile prairie dog is not) I arrived a bit early and reminded the facilitator that one member was vegan. He knows me well and said: I'm getting surrounded by you. Our new ranger is vegan, too. we get back and there is mostly veg pizza and a 12 inch vegan sandwich for Judy and I to share! From the closest sandwich shop. How cool was that?
Even though they all do vegetarian options I still wouldn't buy from them. I'm not trying to sound self-righteous, just speaking my mind. But I couldn't give them money that would go towards the inhumane captivity and slaughter of billions of animals each year.
I used to work at Burger King, and we DO NOT deep fry veggie burgers. They go into the same grill as the chicken burgers. If you've had them deep fried before, make sure that they haven't been put down in the same fryer as tender crisps, chicken nuggets/sandwiches, fish, etc. I do know that fries are cooked separately.
I wouldn't be able to eat in BK anyway. Even before I became a vegetarian I would never go to Mc Donalds, BK or KFC. These places serve really really unhealthy, cheap & crappy food. Doesn't matter whether it's veggie or not, it's still vile crap that can't be good for you.
