Just a note about foot tattoos --

Most artists won't tattoo your foot except for the top of it. And some won't even do that. It will be nearly impossible to find someone who will do the outer edge of your foot or the arch of it, because of the amount of contact your foot has with socks/shoes/the ground, etc. It causes the ink to bleed out rapidly and means that the tattoo looks splotchy and bad.

If you manage to find someone who will tattoo you there, be prepared for it to start looking bad really quickly and to spend a lot of money to have is constantly touched up.

eh, the girl i saw with the tattoo on the bottom of her foot had it well centered in the arch - but on the bottom, and it was pretty small, about dime sized. she just had REALLY dirty feet. like i said, i didn't really see what the design was, but it looked like the ink had stayed pretty good.

huh? contact with socks and shoes have nothing to do with it. feet bear the entirity of body weight and an open wound means a lot of bleeding and swelling. a good artist compensates for ink loss and bleeding/scabbing. my foot was HUGE and i lost some ink with the bleeding...but nothing like what you're intimating. and i always wore thongs with it...and still do.

there are masses of artists who will tattoo the arch. you explain your tattoo and the reason....expression is mutual and any artist is there to 'help' a person visually communicate something on their body.

pardon this longwinded spiel--i am in defense mode of tattooed feet--and remember that proper 'after-care' of a tattoo is essential. every part of the bod reacts differently and there is plenty of information online to help make informative decisions about what should be done. For me, I probably shouldn't have gone to a party right after i got out of the chair that night...and woke up with lying on some floor with a rubber mallet for a foot...but it all ends well!

...unless someone thinks mine looks horrible, which is totally possible.

Re: Foot tattoosI have a tattoo on my big toe and one on the inner edge of my foot. If you take care of them, they'll look great just like any other tattoo. The key is to take care of them!

Chill out, man. I'm not saying that yours looks bad or that they can't look good, but they fade MUCH faster, it's much more LIKELY that they'll look bad, and you have to get them touched up more often.

    That's it.

i'm gonna have to disagree with you also. most people don't walk around barefoot all the time, so it's protected from the sun which is the biggest contributor to fading. lookin bad depends on the art & the artist. and unless they are actually on the sole of your foot where you walk on it all the time, i don't think they would need to be touched up any more than normal. there's lots of nice foot tattoos out there, lots of artists will do them - just not on the calloused walking surface of the foot cuz that's just a plain ol' pain in the ass to ink (like scar tissue), even though if you really wanted to you could do that too. if it was inked onto callous, then there would be way more problems. the tattooist would have to tattoo all the way through the callous to the underlying skin in order for the ink to have staying power, and by then your foot would be hamburger. the callous would return over the tattoo eventually, obliterating detail. pointless pain. but it's all about the pain, really... the ink and the piercings are just souveniers...

i support the idea, a lot. not because i am religious, but because it holds deep meaning :). the placement... the foot is a difficult area. but i was told this by a good tattoo artist... scribble on your foot with a magic marker, then wear your regular shoes for a day. then at the end of the day, look at where the ink has worn off. where the ink is still in the best shape, that would be your best bet. try different pairs of shoes also. make sure you post pics of it after its done :)

    But see... it's NOT.
I've had the tats on my feet for 10 years and they look as good as the day I got them. I have other tats, not on my feet, and those have faded more (from sun exposure).

hmm, sounds like cellucitus or a staph infection... mighty ugly stuff on a fresh tattoo. that's why the artists give you all those instructions in aftercare! always treat it like an open wound - keep it clean, clean, clean!

I knew someone who did that with the swooshes. He later regretted it cause he felt like he had corporately branded himself. He then tried to get them changed into like Mercury's wings or something...never really turned out in my opinion.

but yeah feet tattoos are solid.

Actually the foot fades "mostly" due to chafeing and constant rubbing,,

And not to sounds like an arsewipe but dosent the bible say you cant get tattoos. “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:28)

I dunno i just find it kinda funny when people come in to get a tattoo of jesus, or any christian tattoo.

But to each their own, im just curious what you guys have to say bout that.:)
