We've been living in this place for 3 months now and our landlord totally ignores us when things go wrong. After two months of bitching, he replaced our broken oven with another broken oven! When we first got here we told him about 100 times that the roof leaked, so he sent his PLUMBER over here to put some kind of seal on it, and now it's leaking again! We moved out of our van and into here, and I really like this area, and my bf likes his job - but ALL of our money is going to bills, we never have any time anymore, and this house is ridiculously tiny and crappy! Sometimes I just want to throw all our stuff out and move back into the van... Sorry - I just had to get that off my chest...
Sympathize with the landlord a bit, too. Most of em bought houses to rent em out and pretty much cover the cost of the mortgage. They might not have oodles of cash. Replacing a roof is $10,000.
ya be kind its not always easy being a landlord if he cant do anything right now exept patch the roof just let him know its leaking again help him out and try and determin were its coming from its hard to figure when its not raining. if you work with him ill bet he will be nicer! good luck! peace!
dude I'm a friggin doormat most of the time. I've had friends rent houses before so I know what it entails. Just to give you a little perspective on this guy, he OWNS A PAWNSHOP! Not only that, but I've seen some of the other houses he rents and I guess he considers us lucky just to have one of the ones with all outside walls in tact. Seriously, he's making tons of money off me and I know it for sure, because his "handyman" (the plumber who fixed the roof) told me that he doesn't even get paid. He works for the rent on a trailer that he says is even worse than this place. Maybe I should've titled this thread "My landlord stinks" because really, they aren't all that bad, but this one definitely is...
hehe I'm in Murfreesboro... I think my friend and hero might be coming over tomorrow to help (this guy kicks some serious ass - he's done so much for us!) Where are you at, Knoxville area?
No I'm kinda near Nashville - actually I'm just outside Murfreesboro toward nash, so I get the best of both worlds (and I get to be out in the country. I've met some cats who live in that part of the state though, one glassblower I ran into a few times on tour around Asheville. Sure is pretty there!
Eh, in all seriousness, I dont know how they do tings down thar in TN, but in VT we got serious social welfare laws, check your local/state ordinances regarding landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities, he may be forced to give you adequate repairs/accomodations by law, in VT if something like that were to happen, you could automatically withold rent and the courts would issue an order on the landlord posthaste, in some cases landlords have to pay out of there pocket to put you up in "reasonable" accomodations until all repairs are made.........dont be a pushover, you got rights to fair/safe/adequate housing. Slum lords are worthless.
ahh your way out by nashville huh? bit of a drive for me you ever get out this way send me a heads up if summer we can hit some good swimming holes gdluck!!

Tenant's rights. I know in BC, you can start withholding rent checks, and there are boards you can complain to.
Oh ya, i've heard Max Creek!! Never seen em live though, now that u mention it i havent heard much bout em in a while, heh, I should check em out sometime, wonder if they ever play Higher Ground (in Burlington) Ya Bread and Puppet is a huge farm/organization, it's all about art and political protest/statements, they used to put on a huge circus every year but that stopped because some asshole murdered another asshole, they still do little small local things all the time though, I go up there quite a bit, really cool place, theirs a huge barn full of all the old puppets, some of them are 30 feet high!!! And Peter and Elka (the old couple who run it) are really cool people to talk to, it's definitely a one of a kind place. Check out www.breadandpuppet.org .
