Just read a few of H.P Lovecraft's stories, they're really great. A bit hard to read (For me at least, I'm not much of a reader- yet) 'cause it's like 1800's speak. The Call of Cthulhu related stories are the best, and the Shadow over Innsmouth. Found a link to some of his short stories here. On a barely related note- any of you guys played Call of Cthulhu the videogame? I borrowed it from my brother after reading these stories and it's the scariest game in existence, yes, even scarier than Pokemon
have read the mythos of cuthulu and the call of cuthulu, a good book of short stories, I enjoyed them a lot. First read them when I was about 15, but read them again last year.
Lovecraft is without a doubt my favorite author of all time. It's a shame that more people haven't heard of him. Actually if it wasn't for some close acquaintances of his we probably never would have. If you get a chance I would recommend reading The Colour out of Space, At the Mountains of Madness, The Shadow out of Time, and The Shadow Over Innsmouth. Those are some of my personal favorites, although they are a bit longer than the majority of his other work. That site is great and I've recommended it to a lot of other people, but it's not his complete works. There is definately some stuff missing.
I dont like him. too much of "and the house belonged to my uncles brothers wife, who inherited it from her grandmother, who bought it from her fathers .....blahblah" take out alll of that and i like the stories.
Sounds more like you're talking about the Bible instead of Lovecraft. I don't think that's a very accurate description of his writing style at all, although I will admit that he may be a bit harder to follow for those who don't have a large vocabulary.
I guess his long-winded writing style would have pretty normal back in them thar days. I mean, has anyone read Jekyll & Hyde? God, that books goes on a bit
You're 16 and you can't read that well? Eek. Secondly, I love those stories in as much as the protagonist is always about to imminently be eaten or go insane and yet writes about the monster coming up the stairs or whatever, in the first person.
It's not that I can't read Jekyll & Hyde, it's just that I kinda end up thinking about other things while reading it and find myself at the end of the page without a clue as to what I've just read Sometimes have to back-track a few pages
I looove HP Lovecraft and he's also a big inspiration for one of my favorite bands of all time, Rudimentary Peni. Dagon is really good and was also a FUCKING AMAZING movie. I love how wordy or long-winded he is is, depite making it a little more difficult to read I think it adds a lot to his stories and makes them very poetic. He's amazing.
