Who here has taken online classes? What was your experience like? What class did you take? Would you recomend it or not?

I've taken several classes online - literature, art appreciation, human sexuality, even biology.

The most difficult was biology, because of the labs I had to do in addition to testing over the assigned readings.

The main thing you have to worry about is procrastination... don't save it all for the last few weeks of class.

I would highly recommend internet classes if you are bored with the traditional classroom setting.

I preferred sipping coffee at a local cafe and reading my textbook on my own time, rather than listening to some professor drone on and on.

I personally hate online classes. I really like the social aspect of school and exchanging ideas and online classes don't really allow for that option. I'm not very self motivated, either, and that wasn't good for me either.

All around, if you're a busy person and self motivated, online classes are good.

I've done quite a few online classes seeing as they allow me to work at my job more and do schooling at night. The main thing to remember is that your going to be producing about twice as much text as you normally would. I would say on average I have typed something like 4 pages a week between discussion board posts, and assignments in the classes I've done online.. Also you have to be very self motivated to do an online class, because you can fall behind quickly. I like them though because the instructors are forced to put out all the class material at the begining which means if i have a free weekend, i can complete a good 1/3 of a class. I actually plan on doing the rest of my BS Comp Sci degree online though franklin, then again i'm an anti social coder so for me online schooling rocks....

My instructors have all the assigmnets in their syllabuses, I think that is kind of the norm...be it an online class, or not. I like that, becuase like you, when I have free time I'll work ahead some. Thanks for the input guys!

I've taken a few online classes too. A general guideline I've found is to count every 1 online class as 2 campus classes, because that's how much "effort" and "time" you'll have to put into it. You have to "work more". For example, I could take 2 campus classes, but not 2 online classes, because for me that'd be like 4 campus classes!

Does anyone who takes online classes (or anyone in general) know if the money from FAFSA covers online classes? I've been wanting to take some(to save on gas), though FAFSA covers my tuition (since there's no way I can afford even a tiny speck of college tuition on my own) and I'm not sure if it covers online courses.

Excelent question! Now that you ask I've started to wonder the same thing--although a quick search has turned up no answers. I'd say check with the Financial Aid folks at your school. If you find an answer, please let me know--and I'll do likewise!

FAFSA? Isn't that the tax-application thingy that you and your parents have to fill out to see how much income they are to give towards your education?

    Are you meaning something else?

FAFSA Free Application for Federal Student Aid
    also called finanncial aid application.

If the college or uni offers the course it should count the same (I took several at OKCCC, Bree, and found I needed half the time as a traditional class).
Soem online classes have an additional fee and cost more.

I think I'm going to try to take one for either Summer term or Fall...I told my advisor that I've never taken one, and she just said that she would help me pick something easy for the first time! :p Thanks for the input from everyone!

Are there any "alternative" courses offered online?
