I think it's a 5 syllable word starting with a G and ending with an N. Gent come from the Latin Gentus which means gentle, and Rification comes from Old English meaning to jam mightily on an electric guitar. Since you can't Rificate Gently, this word is an oxymoron.
A better place to post this would have been somewhere in the Activism section....Consumer Advocasy? You'll get random answers here...
haha, you dont' want me to go into this. my neighborhood in boston has been going through this for a while, and it pisses me off....
gen·tri·fi·ca·tion n. 1. The act of gently cranking out a killer guitar riff. 2. The restoration and upgrading of deteriorated urban property by middle-class or affluent people, often resulting in displacement of lower-income people.
In all honesty, I only have an issue with gentrification if the government is using eminent domain to make it happen. I'm a strong believer in private property rights, and the government should not have the authority to remove residents from their homes in order to transfer that home to another private party.
but if it's just a thing where someone is buying property, making it nice and selling it for what the market with stand, i've got not problem with it at all.
yeah, its bullshit. theyre doing that here a little bit too. once they do that, the poor people spread out over the rest of the not-so-poor neighborhoods, and make it poorer. I mean when you got a house with fifty mexicans living in it on a street thats nothing but nice old people and families, its kinda out of place and unnecessary.
well, they gotta go somewhere. it's always a matter of "not on MY street!" better that it stays "over there"
damn right not on my street. I pay a higher mortgage for a reason. i could live cheap as fuck if i didnt mind ghettoness. (well my mom pays it, but you get the idea)
wait...what constitutes a nice family? what makes this nice family better than the poor fifty mexicans? just wondering
ummm... sorry, but if you haven't lived on your own funder the poverty line, you don't get to criticise people for livign poorly, or being forced to move to more affordable areas in the city.
thats just the thing, im gonna be more poor than you can imagine in aobut 6 months. but if i got fifty people together, we could afford anythng. fifty young white pothead foodservice employees, living in a 5 bedroom house in the middle of a suburbian neighborhood of nothing but doctors and lawyers. dosent that seem a little out of place?
