In your own words, please describe what qualities someone labeled as a Liberal would have... and what qualities a person labeled as a Conservative would have. Just describe things about them, like political and social views, their thoughts and feelings about themselves and others and the world. Things they do. Things important to them. Just anything... Thanks. .
A liberal wants everybody to benefit from the good of society. A conservative wants everybody to contribute to the good of society.

From a practical standpoint, the main difference that I've noticed is that liberal women put out more easily, but conservative women tend to be less hairy.
liberals are who I woudl vote for if the NDP didnt' exist conservatives are the fuckwads that I will never vote for because I don't want my government to also be religion
Liberal. Conservative. Both are just labels that are used to divide and conquer. Liberalism and conservatism as they originally existed are long gone. Today, both support big-government and off-the-wall spending, so I see no real difference between the two, other than a means to manipulate and get people arguing amongst themselves, when in fact both sides are controlled by the same forces. I think this bumper sticker pretty much sums this false paradigm up:
These are divisive labels of modern politics. It would be much simpler if they all just adopted the motto "I'm ok, you're an asshole". While the total lack of polarization might seem confusing at the outset, it all becomes clear when you realize that a: the dividing line of bipartisan politics has become irrepairably blurred by special interest, pork barrel and faith-based initiatives, and b: no one with any intelligence gives a shit anymore. Toeing the party line is in the past.
I would argue the opposite. Liberal and Consvative have meaning, but the two major political parties in [insert practically any country here] don't fit into the definitely cleanly. Very few republicans are conservative for example. Of course, almost everybody you meet will be somewhat liberal, somewhat conservative, and somewhat other. BTW. That's a great bumper siicker Rat. I'm gonna have to buy that.
ratty has it all right....... I was going to say they were one in the same, but, he already pointed that out.
I gotta say that a liberal person not just for politics is someone who wants people to enjoy themselves more and want people to get along while a conservative person wants people to do things that will make the machine work the best not what they really want to do

Seeing as how were days away from an election here and we have partys named both conservatives and liberals, I will apply my answer to this situation, as opposed to comparing how the conservatives in western society would be considered far leftists in other parts of this world. Basically, conservatives tell you that theyre gonna fuck over your country. Liberals make all these nice promises, and end up breaking them, fucking over your country anyways
so, use the machine to give people an enjoyable time but don't run the machine properly because people don't enjoy it or want to do it?
Thanks everyone for the replies. My motive for asking was because I wasn't really sure what each group "really" stands for, and I think I must fall somewhere in between. I found this forum while searching for information about Hydrocodone 7.5/750 before I took it for some minor pain. Google led me to a post here. At first I didn't think I would like anyone here, but keeping an open mind I stuck around for a few days reading what people here have to say. Many people here aren't really much different than me in their beleifs, especially in the "activism" section, yet in their profile they claim to be liberal, and I have always considered myself to be conservative. I don't know any liberals in real life, just the ones that I hear about while listening to Michael Savage. Michael, as most talk shows, is biased though. And I'm sure he shows the extreme cases of liberism... possibly people who even annoy most liberals.
Where do you live again? A conservative is someone who believes you should pay your own way - that people need to work for a living, that there need to be few laws, few taxes and few impositions on your life by big brother or big mommy. To say the least, the Bush administration is NOT conservative. As for liberals, well a socialist is someone who has nothing and intends on sharing with you.
This describes how I think things are. I have always thought as Bush more as a liberal than a conservative.
I'm guessing your talking to me? I hope to hang around for a while. This is an interesting place with many good people. Certainly no body here will dislike me just becasue of my name? A quick search of my posts will show I'm not a troll either. .
