Ouch! I shaved the other day*down there*, and now its SO irritated...
I looked on old forums on shaving, and I followed what I was told-Use a brand new razer, try to soak the area first to make it softer, to use a mix of shaving cream and somthing with glide, like shampoo or soap...I followed all the nessisary steps, and it didnt work! Please help.

I always apply some Neosporin or something as soon as I get out of the shower, and I never have any problems. It could be because it's your first time, maybe? Also, make sure you shave in the direction of the hairs.... if you go against, it can suck.

Neosporin shouldn't sting at all.... it's just an antibiotic cream.... it works like a charm, though. :) They also make a kind with a pain killer, in case you cut yourself.

Good advice about the Neosporin, I'll have to try that. I totally shaved the other day because my boyfriend and I were having a special night but now I'm like, ouch!

Oh my no, don't go against the grain. I tried that the first time and I got little nics everywhere a piece of hair was...and it hurt like hell. Just go WITH the direction of the hair growth and it will get just as close a shave. That's what I do and I have no problems, never any irriation either since you're not pulling any hair or getting too terribly close to the skin. Plus, if you shave against the hair growth then you can get quite a few ingrown hairs which are NOT fun in the least.

I don't even use soap or shaving cream though because I find that just shaving with the grain just simply causes no problems...but if you're unsure then lather away.

And any anti-itch cream or pain killer cream would work. Sometimes I'd use cortizone 10, neopsporin, benadryl cream, just anything that's anti itch. None of that ever hurts a bit.

I'll have to say that electric razors are the best though. You can go any direction with those and I've never gotten any irritation no matter what way I shaved, against or with. And it's a lot closer too since you can kind of bare down and don't have to worry about razor cuts.

All of my friends and I swear on conditioner. I just apply regular hair conditioner, and since it's so softening, I never get irritated at all! It helps if you have a triple blade razor like a venus, because a one or two blade razor has irritated me once or twice. Try that and see if it works. I've been shaving for about 3 years now, and it's worked everytime!

Could be you had a reaction to one of those products you used.

I can't not go against the grain. I never get quite smooth enough otherwise. It's really quite annoying, because it's true, sometimes I get lots of nicks. But I just gotta have that ultra smooth feeling. Usually have to wait for my hair to grow out a little before I can shave because then the nicks barely happen at all. I've noticed with myself, if I shave too soon, I get more irritated.

I still want that laser hair removal!!

so: with the grain, shampoo/conditioner, neosporin... i'm thinking i might give it a shot.

my only remaining question: it seems like it could be difficult to shave down around the, well, lips, i guess. hold on lemme check to see if i actually have hair there... yes i do. like, right up to the point where the skin gets really REALLY sensitive.

do you just do it like... REALLY carefully? or avoid the lower area or what?

In responce to your question about the "lip" region, Evie Snatch, I try to shave there, but i have cut myself once or twice, damn it was PAINFUL...you just have to go really slow, and know where your going...i sugest to use a mirror.

Remember too that you can also move your skin around differently there in order to get more of a shaving surface. You don't have to shave yourself just like you are, so to speak. I'm SO afraid of cutting myself that I try to get my lip almost flat before shaving. I too shave against the grain with my Venus razor. I hardly get any cuts at all. Before like was already said, the one or two blade razors tore me up. But the irritation I get is what does suck the most. I too will try the conditioner / neosporin. I don't want to go back and look to see if I already said this but I had bought that Skintimate Ladies Aftershave and it really didn't make a difference on that area like it did for my legs. Just my experience though.

Try putting on baby powder after you've shaved. Or if it's really bad, they make this ointment called Bikini Zone-it works wonders. You can buy it in the drugstore.
