k... today when trey woke up I noticed that the tip of his tongue has white spots on it. Just little tiny spots all over the tip. At first I thought it was just formula or spit up so i tried to wipe it off but it didn't come off. Maybe you guys know what it is. I really don't want to deal with the doctor so hopefully my lovely experienced mamas and papas can save me a trip thanks a bunch!
Sounds like it might be thrush... basically an oral yeast infection. With my kiddies, it cleared up pretty quickly on its own. Keep all teething-type toys ultra-sterilized (hot water is fine, chemicals aren't necessary) and keep yourself or any bottles super clean as well. Not that you aren't already, but thrush is highly contagious & you don't want to be recontaminating him just as he starts to get better. Hope this helps! love, mom
If you are breastfeeding you need to treat baby and yourself with acidophillus. You can buy it in powder, pill, and non-dairy versions at any whole foods or health food store. Check out the dosage for babies. If you do this quickly you might clear it up before it gets bad enough to need an antifungal. If you can't clear it up go see your pediatrician and they will give you a perscription to nystatin, an oral anti-fungal. Hope he feels better soon Had
gentian violet is an over the counter medication for thrush. It stains everything purple but our pediatrician recommended it over oral nystatins and it worked great. You usually have to ask the pharmicist for it, but don't need a prescription and it only costs like $2.
