I've been playing guitar for about 5 years now and am checking out mandolins..only problem know nothing about mandolins...what do you look for in a good mandolin and whats are descent brands at reasonable prices?
avoid Fender. look at some Canadian makers. You can get a good instrument for US $500-700 made start to finish by a luthier. You can, of course, pay more. what's your budget?
haha not quite 5 to 7 hundred I'm not really looking for anything real good just something nice to play thats not a pile
I think some of the best mandolins are made by Elderly and I'm quite sure Gibson makes some nice ones. Only problem is, I think these run pretty high. I've never played one, but the Michael Kelly's look nice and you can buy one of those models from about anywhere from $400 into the thousands. If you have enough cash to scrape together, I'd buy an Elderly.
Also, even though you're on a tight budget, don't go buy one of these Rogue starter packs or something...you're assured to get a piece of shit.
damn, i have one, i'll check who makes it when i get home, fuckin thing cost me $150.00 and it's awesome! sounds great and plays great.
I've got a Rover, it's a nice one I think, left handed, which is rarer to find, not sure the cost though, as it was a Christmas present.
