Since I started planing for having a baby I haven't touched a drop of alcohol nor taken a toke of pot. And generally i've been taking extra care of what I eat... Even though I'm vegan, but i've just been making sure I eat balanced meals and stuff like that... oh and i also started taking folic acid. Ok... but thats only me... what can my huby do?? should he do the same? Will his little "guys" be affected by the things he does? He still drinks on weekends and smokes sometimes (weed). Not to the point of being wasted by the way... social Should he be more careful like I have? Oh and He takes a multivitamin every day... So what do you think??
There hasn't been a lot of research into the use of weed before, during, or after pregnancy by the man or the woman. One thing that has shown up a few times is that excessive heavy use of weed can sometimes destort the shape of the sperm making it harder to get pregnant. But there doesn't seem to be any problems after you're pregnant. The only problem with toking after you're pregnant is Children's Services. If you're single and on a welfare insurance program your baby will probably be drug tested at birth. Some hospitals test every baby. Others, just the ones who fit the profile. You can lose custody over a couple of tokes. It's great for morning sickness, does wonders to help you relax in labor, has so many good uses, but it can cause you to lose your kid. The father's use will not show up in the baby unless he is smoking in the same room that you are in. If you can smell it, you're being affected by it. Kathi
Silent, I've not done any research on men's health before conseption so I can;t really answer any of your questions, I'm just here to hijack your thread for a minute Kathi-- I was going to start a new thread, but I figured it be nice and buried here Can you expand on toking during labor a bit? Do you have experiance with this yourself? I know, for me, my sensations are hightened and I would think that the contractions would hurt even more but I'm open to hearing other's experiances in this matter. I'm having a home water birth so my labor is my oyster Sorry again to hijack your thread Silent.
no prob girl! it's interesting anyway I guess i'll have to find a book on that, i was searching the web but didn't find anything I guess they leave it all up to us
i read that forms of meth can harm the unborn baby, even if "just" the father consumed it (but I hope you guys are not into that shit), and that smoking tobacco does some damage to the sperm. In general eating balanced, doing not too many things the you know that harm yourself are a good way to follow, even for your man!
all i know is that if your trying to conceive that if you or your hubby are overweight its harder to conceive or at least that is what i have read in several different places. Other wise it sounds that you are doing pretty good so far.
I read all of that stuff, about being overweight and finding it harder to conceive....BUT both me and Brian are big people, and we weren't even trying...and it happened...within three months of beginning a sexual relationship with one another...freaked me out...
Ina May Gaskin mentions weed use while in labor in Spiritual Midwives. It relaxes you. It does make the sensations of labor more vivid, but it is the joyful sensations of openning up to your child that most people talk about. I have no personal experience with this. But have done a lot of research through my job as a drug counselor. I don't smoke, but if it were legal I would. I've just seen too many moms lose their babies because of this wonderful plant.
Hmm, interesting. If I recall correctly, in Ina May's other book...The guide to natural childbirth? She discourages smoking in labor. Maybe I should reread that.
we will have absolutely no prob with that... we are both skinny... my vegan diet helps with that... and my hubi is a little feather also... not that were dying skinny we just eat very healthy
