losing a hundred pounds in a matter of 5 or 6 months would not be a very healthy goal! Definitely don't give up - eat healthy, get excercise. But don't count on losing 100 by summer! (That's disorder-land) Setting unrealistic goals will not only lead you off track via dissappointment, but also can lead you to seek less wholesome methods for losing.

And as far as dissappointment goes, another thing I feel I should mention - some of the weight you lost so quickly was probably water weight. I've known a lot of people who quickly lose 10-15 pounds, and convince themselves it will be easy. But once you get rid of the water weight, the fat is comparitively harder to burn off.

Just put yourself on a live-it - try to be ralistic about your goals, don't weigh yourself more than once a week, eat healthy, excercise, and DON'T GET DISCOURAGED!

    good luck!

here is some advice im sure you will hear over and over again. make smart diet choices-eat less fatty and sugary foods and eat more vegetables and protien (preferably tofu or tempeh if you can handle that.) You should excercise more, and it doesnt have to be extremely strenuous. Simply walking at a quick pace will burn a lot of fat. Consider seeing a doctor about the weight issue, he may be able to help you out with medication especially because weighing 270 probably means that you are at risk for heart problems and high cholesterol

Find a way to exercise that you enjoy, and can do three times a week. for me it was wrestling, but everyone has their own activity they enjoy. Maybe swimming, walking, or something else. it doesn't need to be a sport, just something you'll do three or four times a week that gets your heart rate up.

Incidently, You can safely drop about 40 pounds over the 5 months. and I suspect you'd have a hard time dropping more than that.
I also know of severaal books on calisthenics, exercises you can do at home without any equipment that will help you to increase your endurance and strength. PM if you want some suggestions.

Yeah 40 lbs over the next 5 months would be more realistic.......It's really not about losing weight...It's about leading a healthy lifestyle...First, pay attention to what you eat. If I were you I would keep a log of everything you consume for at least a week. I do that daily regardless, just because I am always tweaking what i do whether i am trying to lose OR gain weight.
Keep a log to see what kind of things you eat.....first cut out sugar and soda. Then start cutting out things that are real high in fat such as cheese......
try cooking your own meals instead of relying on processed foods.

Then try to get at least 30 minutes of some type of exercise daily......preferably more, but dont over do it and dont work the same muscle every day....the only muscle i work every day is my abs and that is because they recover so fast.
Kick up that cardio and do as much as you can handle, but start out slow cause you dont wanna burn out.
Make sure you sleep well. Try not to eat right before you go to bed.
3500 calories = 1 lb so basically to lose 1 lb of fat in a week you would have to eat 500 calories less per day or burn 500 more through exercise and eat the same amount.

Oprah moment/ Do you eat because you are hungry, or for other reasons...if not only to satisfy your hunger, I suggest dealing with the underlying factors first. /Oprah moment

BTW - lots of fibre, water, greens & protein. Get some exercise and stay away from refined carbs.

find ways to encorporate movement into your everyday activities (crunches during commercial breaks on tv, taking stairs instead of elevators, etc). The little things do help, not kidding. I lost weight when I began walking to and from school... 3 weeks of 40 minutes a day and there was a difference.

the more muscle you have, the more your basal body caloric needs. AKA - if you add muscles to your body, then you'll burn more calories all the time, even when just sleeping.

I agree with what people said - do this healthily. keep it in perspective, and look at what you have accomplished, not only what you still believe you need to do. Keep someone who cares about you involved and tell them what you are doing to lose weight.

I'm actually in the same boat, but I don't want to lose 100 pounds five months... only people who starve themselves and contestants on the Biggest Loser can do that. :$

I'm beginning to wonder if I have a thyroid condition, because it seems no matter how hard I try, the numbers barely budge. I have no job right now, so that means I can't get to a doctor to get my levels checked.... I guess that means I'll just have to keep to the treadmill and elliptical machines and keep sweating!

Yeah - I have Poycystic ovary syndrome, which some doctors equate to a low-level dieabetes, and lemme tell yea it is HARD to lost weight! When I was younger it was the eastiest thing to just eat right and get a little excercise and keep it down. But these days, no matter what I do, my body stays about the same. (Luckily, my bf thinks chubby is cute!)

I guess running,or riding a bike, playing basketball,sit-ups,squats,lift weights.Don't eat fast food.Eat more vegetables, fruits, drink alot of water instead of sugar packed juices.Maybe you can drink juice but orange juice, apple juice, pomagranet(sp?) juice, minute maid light is good! And beer is probably the main thing that will balloon you up,so stay away from it for awhile.

Anybody can lose weight. You just have to stick with it.It won't be easy, but you'll feel alot better once you start getting in shape! You'll have lots of energy!
