Okay, I've dealt with this heartburn since about the 3rd month. I've never in my life had heartburn before, and now I can't be rid of it.

I've tried everything. Eating TUMS like crazy, papaya enzyme, eating small frequent meals, avoiding acidic foods like tomatoes, everything....and nothing seems to be working...

Anyone got any advice? This is annoying me to no end!

I lived off of Rolaids soft chews at the end of my pregnancy. Apparantly it means the baby will have lots of hair when its born. And Trey did have a bunch. Thats all I found to help though. Hope it gets better for you

I get heartburn when I need to eat. If I get it, even if I eat one bite, it'll go away for 5 minutes.

Mylanta extra strength liquid! I had the worst heartburn with Sage (my ONLY bald headed baby LOL!) it would get so bad, I could feel it in my ears! I would refrigerate the Mylanta to kill the taste. It was the only thing which worked. And, even that wasn't perfect. Pregnancy not only pushes all your organs into your stomach, it relaxes the muscle which keeps fluids in your stomach, so they easily get into your esophagus and cause this nasty heartburn.

A caveat: The papaya may actually make it worse. It can actually eat away at tissue, (like it does to tenderize meat) and make the heartburn worse. I can't even eat papaya because of this effect.

I had awful heartburn during my pregnancy as well vomiting 6-7 times a day from 5 1/2 weeks up until i delivered.. i swore i wouldnt have an esophogus left by the time he was born..

Anyways, I also ate LOTS of tums & rolaids (Tevian ought to have bones of steel.. lol).. they helped a little, but Mylanta (the cherry flavored liquid) worked better..at the end of my pregnancy it got even worse and my dr put me on pepcid AC which helped, but I still used tums/rolaids/mylanta.. just not quite as much..

all I can say is I feel your pain. Uck. I have it really bad too. Some things that help me though are, at night, when I go to sleep I start out propped up on pillows and slowly settle down to a lower postition. It seems to help to go slow. I eat tons of tums. When I feel it coming up I grab a piece of bread and munch a little on it. That seems to help. Good luck with yours! I'll let you know if I find a cure, lol.

Drinking milk worked for me most of the time, I tried tums when the milk didn't kick it.

I'm not sure how the pregnancy might effect it, but in general you should be careful using milk for BAD heartburn. If you stomach acids are really bubbling up, the can turn milk sour - and trust me, that just makes things worse!

Hummble is right. Cow's milk may initially seem to ease the discomfort, but it causes the stomach to create more acid (why? because it was never meant for human consumption, so the body does weird things to try to digest something that isn't even really a food for people) and that acid causes MORE heartburn and on an on.

Also, milk used during pregnancy can sensitize a fetus to Bovine Protein and cause allergies. (Of course children don't EVER need cow's milk, but you still don't want more allergies) Best to stay as far away from this stuff as possible.
