I am taking a free enterprise class in school right now (it's required) and I am a bit angered about some of the material she is teaching. A lot of her lessons center around why "american economy is best" and whatnot, but doesn't really discuss it's downfalls concerning worldwide capitalism, globalization, ect.....I'm not sure if it is my place to really say anything but I really want to ask her to tell a little more about the other side of the story. I think our school systems are like trying to brainwash us into crazy patriotic all america loving materialists. I'm alkl for loving what we have in our country, but it's getting s little ridiculous....

My class was like that too, my teacher was obviously a capitalist to the core, believed in full free trade, ect..., but then again, it was an economics class, and his job was to show us what worked the best, and really to date, capitalism has worked the best. And as for your class, its called a "free enterprise" class, which would mean capitalism, free trade and what not, so I don't think your teacher has much of a choice of what to teach.

You should absolutely question your instructor about the downside and the pitfalls of free market capitalism. Be respectful, but not shy, speakup and ask the hard questions. Point out that free markets do not neccessarily mean free people and if the people are not free, does it matter what economic system they are under. Point out that globalization not neccessarily mean shared wealth, but can mean shared poverty, while the wages of workers in China and India have risen, the wages in the US have fallen, does it matter if we can buy a TV at Walmart for $79.99 if we can't afford to pay rent.

Absolutely ask. If you can come up with a good argument, it will show a knowledge and interest in the subject. I can't imagine a teacher ever turning that down. Be prepared to defend your stance, though. Any good teacher will try to test your argument to see how well you actually know what you're talking about.

I took Computing and European Business as my degree and I almost failed on the European Business based on the fact that I thought it was a load of bollocks designed to improve the French and German economies.

The UK gets good enough trade off their commonwealth counterparts and so the European thing only serves to help France and Germany. It certainly helped to rebuild Germany when the East and West merged back in the early 90s (which is when I took my degree).

The whole Europe thing could be good. Basically free trade for all companies in Europe.

If I'm a plumber in the UK, I should be able to go to Holland and be a plumber out there without any problems. There is supposedly no restriction of movement.

If this is the case why do I still need to carry my passport around with me?

The Scottish fisheman where I live can't fish. They've been told they aren't allowed to. The Spanish fisherman can fish our waters with their huge trawlers emptying our sea of all fish.

Now if we want to farm we aren't allowed to. You try telling someone in France they can't fish.

In theory Europe could be a great idea but Europe still has all its borders closed so basically the French are fighting for the French, the Germans for the Germans and the Brits for the Brits. This restricts progress.

We are either totally European or not European at all.

As a behavioral pattern, "free enterprise" is a slavish un-conscious impulse.

An un-conscious pattern of mistrust that begins at our mother's breast, and increasingly consumes our cognitive imagination.

"Free enterprise", as a pattern of behavior begins to take on its more familiar shape during the anal-stage of our sexual development.

The "terrible two's and three's, when we as young children are forced by our embarrassed parents to become anal-retentive, triggering an automatic association between anal pleasure and grasping behavior.

The grasping impulse to own, control, and aquire not only automatically triggers a grasping retentive association with anal pleasure, but is only limited by our growing cognitive imagination.

EGO is able to take this inbalanced and unattractive psycho-sexual energy, and disquise it behind the imaginative social-masquerade of business and property.

Unfortunately at such a late stage, chronic behavior caused by the inbalance of our psycho-energy can only, with great difficulty, be managed but rarely cured.
