I came into this thread expecting you to be giving out the recipe!!!!!! I wish I had one to give however.
hehe...am i that predictable? no...i have several recipes....i'm just trying to find the BEST recipe for sangria.....
your recipe sounds good, but i'm not sure if i want rum in my sangria.....i think traditionally, if they added any other liquor, they use brandy with the wine rather than rum.....
Traditional Sangria Be careful with this one... with it's potent punch it's libel to have people running naked around the pool. 3 oranges, sliced into thin rounds 2 lemons, sliced into thin rounds 1 lime, sliced into thin rounds 1 fresh peaches, washed, pitted, and cut into thin slices 2 cups fresh raspberries 1 small pineapple, trim, cored, peeled, and sliced 1 bottle Bonny Doon Raspberry Framboise 2 bottles (750 ml) Terra Blanca Melbec or similar fruity dry red wine. 1/2 cup brandy 3 ounces Cointreau 3 ounces Grand Marnier 2 cups fresh orange juice 2 cups pineapple juice Unsweetened sparkling water Ice cubes Mint sprigs In a large pitcher... add the fresh fruit and Bonny Doon Framboise. Put a lid on the jar and shake it around to coat the fruit. Add the wine, rum, Cointeau, Grand Marnier, orange juice, and pineapple juice. Stir to combine and store covered for at least two to three days to allow flavors to combine. Serve the Sangria over ice in large wine glasses. Fill serving glass half full with ice. Add enough sangria mixture to fill about 3/4 full. Add a few slices of the marinated fruit along with some fresh berries. Top with either club soda, 7-up, or sparkling water (depending on your preference). Garnish each glass with a mint sprig and serve over and over and over.
http://www.john-meekings.co.uk/sangria.html MY SANGRIA RECIPE. Brandy - 2 one ounce measures. Licor 43 - 2 one ounce measures. Martini Rosso - 2 one ounce measures. Red Wine (any) - 1/2 a litre bottle from the fridge. Fruit, I used 1 Orange, 1 Lemon and 1 Apple. Sugar to your taste, I used 1 large tablespoon. Ice - Loads. Lemonade / 7UP / Sprite, just to top up - about 1/2 pint, from the fridge. I USED A LARGE 2 PINT JUG. First I cleaned the outside of the fruit, cut the Apple into bite size chunks. Cut the Lemon into rings and the Orange, first into rings and then halfs. Put the sugar into the jug with a small amount of warm water to help it melt, then put in all the fruit. Add the half bottle of Red Wine from the fridge and give the mix a good stir. Then add the Brandy, Licor 43 and Martini Rosso and mix again. Put the mix into the fridge to let the fruit absorb the liquid, not too long. Finally remove from cooler add the ice, top up with the Lemonade / 7UP / Sprite and start drinking.
Here's a good sangria recipe from a place I bartended at. 68 oz. (2 Litres) Lemon Bar mix - (you should be able to get this as a powder in a grocery store) 16 oz. Cherry Brandy 8 oz. grenadine I'd have the above ingrediants pre-mixed and chilled. For a single glass mix one part of the above "sangria juice" with one part red wine and one part orange juice. Serve over ice with pieces of orange, lime and cherries tossed in. This is a great backyard BBQ drink!!
just the name of this my very favorite drink brings back so many fond Spanish memories... ay, nostalgia can kill sorry, i dont have a recipe to post, but i'd like to contribute my opinion that the best (and tipsyest-quickest) sangria is sangria de cava, 'cava' being traditional catalonian white 'wine', oh so bubbly and delicious mmmmm..... (it's like its not even alcohol [which can actually become a problem, cuz it is of course...])
bar mix is what they use when you order a drink like a tom collins. All it is is citrus juice...kinda like lemonade or you can get lime too but it usually has extra citric and/or ascorbic acid which makes is a little more tart and causes shaken drinks to foam up nicely. You can also make your own substitute with lemon or lime juice, water and sugar. some people also add an egg white which gives a nice frothiness.
