    Is humanity progressing towards something?

Are we following some sort of progression?

Cells make tissues which make organs which make bodies. More and more complexity at higher and higher levels. Is the construction of "society" a further extension of this principle? The next level of consciousness? Are we building blocks for something even bigger, a next level beyond the individual? Are we part of an unfolding higher process, the way stem cells are part of the creation of a new organism, for example?

Or is advanced society just a temporary aberration brought on by our discovery of fossil fuels, soon to disappear and return us to a more primitive and natural condition? Does stuff just happen with no higher teleological goal?

    Hello and WELCOME to hipforums!@

    that's a great first post.

I've wondered about that myself and specificially if there is some goal. Billions of people have lived and died and for what? Is there a force directing our evolution? Is there some way to really find out what the point of this game is? I mean just think that 500 million years ago there were dinosoars and strange creatures walking around and what was their point? And for billions of years there was just basic life forms. Billions of years of basically nothing happening on earth and for the past ten years we've been playing on the internets. Hahahahhahaaa how fucking completely mad insane pointless. What a JOKE! I hope there is a punchline and it damn well better be funny.

I've come to the conclusion that society is an illusion blocking people from seeing the truth or realizing karmic consequences to their actions.

It's almost surreal to me the way the world works nowadays. Its almost like the worlds turning into one big game controlled by the richies and big corperations.

It's like everyones living in a fantasy world of material items and money earning and arn't paying any mind to whats really going on outside this man made system.

It's not so important that; Is humanity progressing toward something! It's about you, the individual, that counts and choses to follow a coarse that leads you to that higher consciousness and where you eventually ascend to after you pass form this place.

The majority of so called "Civilized" humanity is addicted to emotional brainwashing and Money, not realizing there something more then this. Keep a human busy and he don't have time to contemplate what really is important.

I wouldn't worry about what happens after your dead that much, cause when you do it makes it harder to enjoy life now.

Which maybe I'm just going nuts (again) but everywhere I've been going I've seen "Spread the word", "829" or something similar to 829, like in Bingo at school, I had "B29" and it was the number that made me win too. [IMG]

i dont think we are proggeressong towards anything.
Proggesion is enevitable - just like an ameobe will naturally ivolve into something slightly more complex - it has no choice, it just happens.

If there is something wrong in society, we will try to change it for the better and this is what is causing sosciety to evolve.

but looking at past civiisations, they all seem to end up being destroyed one way or another, so maybe the only thing we are progressing to is destruction.

Thats no reason for us to all slit our throats though... We are lucky to be alive, and instead of thinking about the end of the game, make fun out of the game

Improve and enjoy your life, and others around you.

....I think if we are progressing somewhere, then it is to a eutopia where we can all live peacefully where no one is hungry or ill..

...thats an unlikely thing though, but we can all help in some small way to get there.

...about things that have come and gone...

Soon enough we will be gone, but the actions that happen now will affect the future... so maybe 500 million years ago, if T.Rex didnt eat some critter then we might not be here now....
...But going into different relities is a different topic.

    I don't want to know.

And I don't want to be a part of it.

I just want to go somewhere.

Build my own house, grow my own food, play my own guitar, and live my own damn life.

people don't need money. imagine if an enormous group of people just stopped accepting money as having any value and instead traded or worked for things.

    I would like that.

Which is one reason I want to bring 300 or 400 people to an island and start my own civilization. It would be a hell of a lot easier than now. And more peaceful.

It's arguable that as a whole we're progressing toward self-destruction. From the "grand scheme" vantage point of earth's health it would be the most meaningful advance we could give her.

Human ego, greed, and visions of power are the downfall of humanity. The true answers lie within the conciousness of self, perceptions are infinite, look inside and see truth. You can mentally drop out of society while still manipulating the system to your own means. Money is an evil evil evil idea, and yes, I do believe we as a global society have set ourselves up for failure. The worlds supply of natural gas/oil is being exhausted at an incredible rate, mostly attributable to the economic growth of eurasia and indo-china, geologists do not know hard facts, but those in the know have given estimates of oil reserves being tapped out anywhere from 6mos. to 25 years, but we are on the verge of it, that is true. I for one will be ecstatic once this happens, because it will be a societal cleansing, corporations will fall, governments will fall, the power of the almighty dollar will cease, and we will be forced to move into a new culture, long overdue. The industrial revolution has been going on for over 200 years now, we have come up with a myriad of technological advances, but very few sustainable, do you realize that the majority of every technical application, production method, material, etc. relies on the use of fossil fuels? We have devoted very little in the way of research into self sustaining materials/processes/and methods mostly because the profits just weren't there, but my friends, that greed is going to catch up to us, sooner rather than later, we will have to pay for the apathy and mistakes of our fathers, the current youth generation is going to experience the largest shock because they will forcibly be snapped out of their apathy (aaah I can hear "this sucks" radiating across the earth) . The question, inevitably lies in what we, the youth of the current global society, are going to do about this, the torch is going to be passed, and we are going to be left to pick up the pieces, I have alot of fear about this because I believe that most of us have been raised apathetically and to rely on goods and services that will sooner than later, not be available, will this cause mass starvation? massive crime? mass illness? Very few people even understand the concept of self sufficiency, let alone the practice of it. What i'm saying is not a conspiracy theorists rant, it is factual and our current fascist administration (here in Amerikkka) knows it, this is why we are diseminating terror campaigns, fear controls the population, while our government makes a last ditch attempt to gain control of the last of this resource (fossil fuels). This will make the United States/UK more than superpowers.............its global domination, and the third world will revert back to tribalism, while those struggling economically, or who do not share the preemptive religious beliefs, will be forced to fend for themselves, ending in tragedy no doubt, martial law will be declared in the civilized nations, and freedom of choice will no longer be a question, it will be blatantly taken away for the "safety" of the masses because of the new volatile world atmosphere. As we gain control of the last of this major natural resource, eventually it will dry up, and our crash will be much more rapid than our ascent, all global conquests end in failure, and all oligopolies fall, its just a matter of time, the question I pose to you, our youth, our future, (myself included) is what are WE going to do? These old beauracrats dont have too many years left in them, and for those of us that have not been indoctrinated and brainwashed, we may have a shot at survival, but what are we going to do? As the original poster put it, everything is formed on a basic foundation, in order to create a global society that is functional, safe, stable, and beneficial to all its members, it must be founded upon the right ideals, ideals of love, tolerance, and honesty, people must move past the human ego, the religious prediclictions, and move on to enlightenment, only then will we prosper and find out our higher purpose, we are the new generation, we have the ability to progress multitudes and centuries beyond what we already have.............if we simply make the choice to live without greed, without ego, without prejudice, how then, should we accomplish this? We can sit idly by and talk until we're blue in the face, discussion is warranted, however action is necessitated, the first step, is realizing the problem, we're there, now, we must overcome the apathy.

me too  lets do it :D

Don't despair about sosciety falling though... outside our 'hi -tech world' there are loads of cultures we don't really know about who live without money... aboriginals (sp?), nomads etc.etc.

Tiny remote islands out in the ocean with small villages probably don't use money either.
