If everything goes as planned I will start taking a course and get my A+ certification soon. Are any of you have A+ certified, and if so in your experience is it enough to land a decent paying job, or do most jobs usually require more qualification?
I earned my A+ certification last year. First off, I would highly reccomend you buy this book to study for the A+ exam. It's called "Mike Meyers A+ Certification Passport" [no not that Mike]. It taught me more than the entire class I took. Secondly, the A+ certification will NOT get you into Microsoft. Or an IT Position. Consider the A+ certification as a stepping stone for other certifications. Once you obtain the A+, consider what job you want, and obtain certifications towards that position. MCSE [Micrsoft Certified System Engineer] and CCNA [CISCO Certified Network Associate] are two valuable certifications, and should be considered. The most you could possibly get out of an A+ certification is a job a RadioShack, possibly a small computer repair jig, or an Internet help desk associate. Good luck to you.
Thank you for the info. I'm not expecting a very nice IT job at the moment. I pretty much have two choices at the moment where I live. I can either work a minimum wage job at a restaurant, or I can make about $8-$10 an hour working at a factory. Those are about the only options I have without a degree. It's going to be a while before I can even start college. The government is going to pay for my A+ training. Right now I'm just trying to secure a job, and I can work on my degree, future certifications, and getting a higher paying job later. If the A+ alone can do that for me then that's good enough for me at the moment.
as was said A+ is a good stepping stone and it will enable you to figure out if you really like working with comps..I got my A+ about 6 years ago..it used to mean a lot more then then it does now
I got my A+ a few (2 or three) years ago. It is a stepping stone like the posters above me said. After you get it, I would suggest looking into MCSE, CCNA, RHCE, and other certifications more suited to your desired position.
