    Hi guys,

3 of us are travelling to Amsterdam in early March.

I am lost in trying to find accommodation because there is just too much choice so was wondering if anyone could give some suggestions of :

    Tidy hotel or apartment
    Not too expensive
    Smoking allowed
    Central to everything

or any suggestions as to places to stay away from!

Also any suggestions of good coffeeshops/ clubs would be good.

    Anyone that can help thanks.

Try the hotel Winston, quite noisy but very central, safe, cheap and clean.

    Good coffeeshops to visit, imo
Dampkring, Amnesia, Abraxas, Homegrown Fantasy, Nes, Rokerij. Tweede Kamer.
Grasshopper is very commercial and touristy, Bulldogs I would personally miss too.

A hotel is probably going to work out cheaper than an apartment, a hostel even
    more so.

'Good' coffee-shops? Maybe my standards are a little low, but anywhere can be an adventure. As long as they sell, go nuts. It's nice to wander for a day, pop in & out of random shops, buy a joint here, a space-cake there, take one out to the canals and puff dat magic dragon. Inevitably you'll find places you love...

As for where to stay - OK, I'm a stickler here. I ONLY stay @ the Flying Pig (www.flyingpig.nl). Great place, sweet lounge, good folks, very chill, and central to everything. Wife and I even stayed there for the last 5 days of our honeymoon... Aim for the Downtown location; uptown as a good back-up. Don't go to the Beach location, unless that's your thing. (Stayed there - a quick train & bus ride away, right on the sea, very small but quaint. The City (Noordwijk) frowns on the smokables, you can't buy anywhere, but you can partake @ the hostel, only outside on the deck. For a first-timer, aim for Amsterdam itself.)

    Hope that helps. Enjoy!
