Hey lets kill the peyote cactus!

This fucking drives me insane. People think peyote is just out there for the picking, like the plant's only purpose is to be eaten by a bunch of fucking ravers. It's nearly extinct from hippies who don't know how to pick them properly. The worse part about it is that no one gives a shit. Not even the drug users in the psychedelics forum. People are so damn ignorant, thinking this plant's life is their big fucking party. Does anyone care?

 

Believe me I care... mostly cause i want my grandkids to get fucked up on Peyote too.

 

yea folks grow it in gardens successfully, there is no need to pick them from the wild.
though i suspect the ever expanding suburbs may be a bigger threat to the desert peyote calls home.

 

Unfortunately, few people do. As long as they can catch a buzz, who gives a shit about little things like endangered species?

The same kind of situation is also happening with the Sonoran Desert Toad, which is being hunted nearly to extinction by idiots looking to cop a buzz from the venom.

Unfortunately, psychedelics use does NOT generally correlate with an enlightened attitude anymore.

 

how many times can we harvest a peyote, as far as i know, they flower only after 10 (fucking long) years (5 years with special care)

 

The traditional technique for harvesting involves taking ONLY the part that grows above the ground (the "button"), cutting it free from the root using a wooden blade. This leaves the root system intact, and able to regenerate new buttons in a relatively short time (a few years). Only plants above a certain minimum size are harvested.

The thoughtless assholes just rip the whole plant out of the ground, preventing future regrowth.

i wanna try peyote one day, but i don't want to go ruining the plant because of it. i hate when species become extinct. i would've loved to have seen a dodo!!!

 

The dodo? Have you ever seen a concept drawing? Damn those were ugly creatures... I'm glad there gone. Not all species of peyote are endangered, San Pedro is every freaking where. Legal too... Its sad to 'da knoble cacti in danger though.

 

San Pedro is NOT "Peyote". Not even the same genus, much less species.

And while San Pedro is legal to buy as a decorative plant, it is NOT legal to extract or prepare for human consumption, at least in the USA.

 

I'm glad there's some support on this. It's ashame what's happening to the the toad. I've heard of people killing them and ripping the skin right off. It's completely unnesessary. I really wish people would be more reasonable. I've brought this up before in the Psychedelics forum. People don't seem to care there.

 

Whatever, its still a mescaline producing cactus. And although not legal to get fucked up off of, you can still do it, so I don't see a difference. I guess start encouraging people to start using San Pedro instead, I mean, kids need to get high right?


The Toad eating's pretty freaking dumb, its 5-MEO-DMT right? that can be easily synthed. And bufotenine can too, although its hella neurotoxic, along with some others venoms the toads produce... I don't see what the freaking point is to trace down and eat a toad, when its way cheaper to have made in a lab. I feel bad for the poor toads, and who the hell would want extra brain poison in their drugs?!!

 

Peyote's not extinct on Ebay. Its in nurseries in Britian and Amsterdam where the people have a bit of freedom left.

Actually they are doing quite well in AZ. No where near extinction. Some areas they have been wiped out others they are booming. Those damn richie playground are becoming their haven.

 

What they want is the 5-Methoxy-DMT. Most of the bufotenine is destroyed by the heat of smoking the venom.

The people who actually believe the myth about LICKING toads get in trouble with the bufotenine.
