I know there have been other posts about this subject (I've gone through 26 pages to find out!) but I can't find the information that I'm looking for. I would like to lighten my dreads to blonde, but I'm nervous about my hair turning orange. It looks darker than what it is because I have dyed blonde hair w/ golden brown roots. In comparsion to the blonde hair, the light brown hair seems much darker! I'm nervous to bleach b/c of it turning orange. It's too cold to use lemon juice in the sun, otherwise I would. Any ideas? Thanks. Peace & Love dharma mama
lewa\ve the bleach on for a longtime and it wont go orange. basically your hair colour is in layers, and red is the one above the basic blonde, which is why peole who dont leave the bleach on long enough get orange hair. because it hasnt stripped the colour completely.
How do you recommend bleaching it? I have always used dye from a box (Clairol or whatever) or lemon juice. I've never just bleached it. I need some advice! Thanks! Peace & Love dharma mama
This website is for people wanting unusual hair color, and in order to get a really blue blue or vibrant purple or pink, one must bleach out the color first. But the instructions would be the same for anyone wanting to lighten without turning their hair bright yellow or orange. It's all about the developer you use, not how long you leave it on (well, up to a point). Once it heats up, it's done. Bleach stops working after a certain amount of time (usually 20 minutes), that's why it comes in two separate packages that you have to mix together. To get it lighter, you'd need to reapply fresh bleach solution. To turn dark brown hair white, get a bleach kit with 40 volume developer and leave on the max amount of time the package says, lighter hair can take a lower number developer. Sally Beauty Supply has kits with everything you need for a decent price.
Cool, Mama! Thanks for the link! It was very helpful. Peace & Love dharma mama PS: Your kids are so adorable!
All I can say: Toner! Lighten your hair to the pale yellow color of the inside of a banana peel, and then go over that with a toner (mixed with 10 vol. peroxide). I have naturally dark brown hair, and I recently stripped all the un-natural colors out of my hair due to a severe allergy. I was left with pale blond hair (due to all the previous chemical processing). I can safely tone, so I do.... and I'm easily able to get that Gwen Stefani platinum color, and it doesnt turn orange or brassy.
This might be a stupid question but... If you bleach, or tone, or whatver you hair, Well the naturel colour come back?
