I can't remember the specific articles but I have read somework on the effects of hormones on sex prefrence. If it is caused by hormones(either during development or later in life) it could be caused by either environmental factors or the genetics of the particular person(or in the case of development, their mother) amoung many other things. Try a scholarly journal search, I know I saw the results of some studies on it.
