I really like this GD song, but the irony is I've only heard the Sublime version. What Dead album is that song on? Do you all like the GD version or Sublime version better? And finally, in the Sublime version the part where he says "Tye Dye Dress she was a psychadelic mess, we toured through... We sold some mushroom tea, and then some Ecstcy, we sold nitrous acid opium, crack, heroin and PCP" - Was that in the original GD song, or did Bradley add that? The reason I ask is cause the song talks about the Summer of Love (which was in 1967), and Ecstacy and crack didn't exsist back then.

Man, all the lyrics about drugs and her being a psychadelic mess is garbage. I mean, it's not a horrible cover, but that isnt part of the Dead song all.

    The Following Lyrics

It was the summer of love, and I thank the stars above
Because the woman took a-lovin' over me
And just to gain her trust, I bought a microbus
Because I sold up all my personal property
A tight tie-dyed dress, she was a psychedelic mess
We toured to the north, south, east and west
We sold some mushroom tea, we sold some ecstacy
We sold nitrous, opium, acid, heroin and PCP
And now I hear the police coming after me
Yes now I hear the police coming after me
The one scarlet with the flowers in her hair
She's got the police coming after me

Do not appear in any Dead version of the song.
Do yourself the ultimate favor bro, and buy From the Mars Hotel, the album on which Scarlet Begonias debued on. Or, you could buy the Closing of Winterland December 31st 1979, where Jerry, Bob and the gang jam from Scarlet begonias into Fire on the Mountain, back into Scarlet Begonias. There are also thousands of live recordings of Scarlet Begonias.

    Peace dude!

I love scarlet begonias, it makes me very nostalgic. Its on the album "Grateful Dead from the Mars Hotel", and unfortunately very few greatest hits albums.

sublime DO do an awesome cover of it! i mean ok..its not the dead but at least they put their own creativity on it and still gave 100% credit to the dead if any of you have ever read closely the jacket of their "40oz to freedom" album! i like the dead version too of course~!

    NOT TRUE...
the term "ecstacy" didnt exsist untill the early-mid '70... but the chemical was around since 1912.
