Just wondering what peoples' opinions on this are. I have a friend who owns a business who is very much in favor of essential oils, but I myself use mostly fragrance oils when I make my products.

Do you think fragrance oils have the same aromatherapeutic ability as essential oils?

    Not entirely sure.

Though I doubt the fragrance oils would work as well. If they are just for scent they won't be as potent as actual aromathreaphy oils.

My mother knows a lot about aromatheraphy, shall ask her.

Fragrance oils arent natural. YOu cant rub them on your skin,
or put them in your soap, etc. YOu can use it to make candles,
but essential oils is always best because it is all natural
and pure scent of the plant.

Basically, that's what she (my friend) said. She makes lotions and stuff and so essential oils are better for her. I just talked to her more in-depth about it today, and she said that as she began to realize her connection with the essential oils, she could no longer stand the smell of fragrance oils. They make her "taste" the smell and her nose burns. Also, she said they do not work with her magically. However, her husband has no problem with them. Basically, she told me that it depends on what type of person you are and what you align with.

I'm seriously considering working with essential oils. I own a homemade candle/incense business, and the scents don't disturb me, but I do notice that they get awfully messy and sticky because of all the artificial components. Plus, I think I would reach a wider audience if my products "stood out" by being from 100% natural components. If nothing else I will at least offer a variety of items from both products.

But, as far as aromatherapy goes, here's what I'm thinking (correct me if I'm wrong): An olfactory sensation triggers the neurons to fire and basically connects with the entire neural net with which it is linked. For example, lavender triggers a certain part of my brain to fire, and the neural net connected to that original neuron is also recognized in this process. Therefore, lavender triggers a certain neuron of memories links to memories of rest and sleep and soft music and rainy days and so forth. Thus, anything that reminds you of the scent of lavender would also set of this reaction as well. So, it all depends on what corresponds to you and what you associate the smell with.

As far as magick goes, I would say, hands-down, essential oils are more effective.

Fragrance oils do not have the same aromatherapy benefits as essential oils. If you think they smell better by all means use them, but realise that they won't have the same medicinal, psychological or massage benefits.

Personally, I prefer the smell of essential oils. I just can't afford them when I'm just starting a business. I hope to gradually segway into them as profits increase.

I'm just saying that it is all in the individual. While some people are unaffected totally by fragrance oils, there are some who actually get benefit from them. Perhaps, however, they are not as potent as essential oils, which contain the actual essence of the plant as well as induce association within the brain.

i wouldn't use a synthetic fragrance oil even for perfumery. many of them are made with dangerous chemicals in the toluene/formaldehyde group, which i have a sensitivity too. a pretty fragrance is not worth a 3-day migraine.

Yes, you sound very much like my friend, who says she can literally taste the chemicals when she smells fragrance oils. However, I am not sensitive to this. She also said that her husband is not affected by fragrance oils, perhaps because that is not his calling from Spirit. Not to say he is not experienced with the oils, he just shares a different relationship with them.

You mentioned "synthetic fragrance oils." Do you happen to know of a good website that produces fragrance oils that are purely blends of essential oils, with no synthetics added?

as far as i'm concerned, it's interchangable. it depends on what I'm doing that i would prefer one from the other.

I'm not much of a perfume fan anyway, but I have 4 little bottles that I got years ago in a gift set from Wally World. I think they were synthetic, but they were labeled for air, fire, earth, and water. I've used them for personal annointing with okay results, but I wouldn't add them to an incense or anything.
