At jr's SOTU speech last night, Cindy Sheehan was arrested for wearing a pro-peace shirt.
Seems it's against the law to publicly express your desire for peace anywhere near jr.
I'm anxious to see how the religious right reacts, since one of Jesus' nic's is The Prince Of Peace.

It was a good evening for the pro-peace folks though.
You can be sure that Cindy's gonna get a lot of mileage out of this, inc. pics of her in her illegal shirt.

jr. was right about 1 thing; America is addicted to oil.
And like a junkie in need of a fix, we broke into Iraq to steal their stuff.
bushco didn't expect the people who live there to put up this much of a fight.

    http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/01/31/sheehan.arrest/index.html

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Peace activist Cindy Sheehan was arrested Tuesday in the House gallery after refusing to cover up a T-shirt bearing an anti-war slogan before President Bush's State of the Union address."

"She was asked to cover it up. She did not," said Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman, adding that Sheehan was arrested for unlawful conduct, a misdemeanor.

And of course her wearing a t-shirt and getting arrested before the speech even happened achieves what exactly?

When is anybody going to make a big enough noise that it actually forces people to stand up and listen?

    Wearing a t-shirt!?!?!

    Fucking idiot....

Beverly Young, wife of Rep. C.W. Bill Young of Florida _ chairman of the House Defense Appropriations subcommittee _ was removed from the gallery because she was wearing a T-shirt that read, "Support the Troops _ Defending Our Freedom."

    Ironic eh ???

He did say the American people were addicted to Oil...like has been said.. and alternatives needed to be found.

I thought that was 'convincing' ...what is done about it over the next few years will be the key..

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2001/09/20010920-8.html

I thought it was quite good..these things are rhetoric though take from it what you want. i guess i thought most of it was 'convincing'..

I was wondering what the spin would be :

''jr. was right about 1 thing; America is addicted to oil.
And like a junkie in need of a fix, we broke into Iraq to steal their stuff.
bushco didn't expect the people who live there to put up this much of a fight.''

    Meh.. not very original.

Another insurgency lover .. you do realise the insurgeny kills Iraqis also ??? they are the ones..aghhhh i feel a rant coming on .. i'll spare you that i think... :p

He gave lip service to "alternative fuels" but did NOT promise any money to help these fuels become a reality. (Course not, the Bush family has made more than a Billion point three dollars on OIL!) However he did promise money to prevent "human-animal hybrid clones" from being produced. I am serious. Is this REALLY a problem. Hey, Shrub, while you're at it, why not take the SALMON genes outta our tomatoes? (THIS actually is a reality and a problem, yet the Repubs don't think it's a problem.) Human animal hybrids? What universe is this dude from? Scare people enough and maybe the midterm election will go your way.

It was a lying sack of shit, came outta this man's mouth.

I was SHOCKED when Bush addressed the need for alternative energy sources. I about shit my drawers.

As far as Sheehan goes...well...I don't know...I like the woman, I like what she stands for, but I think she's going about things a little too wrong.

I do love that the Repubs wife was taken out for wearing a pro war Tshirt. She was, I add, NOT taken out in cuffs. She also argued with the cops who removed her, which is something Shehan did NOT do.

He addressed it, Annie, but said nothing about helping it become a reality. LIP SERVICE is all it was.

But at least now we can hold him accountable. I never remember him mentioning it before. If the democrats were smart (which is an ENTIRELY different issue), they'd make sure he follows through. I'm not having very much faith in the democratic party lately, though.

America is addicted to oil, which is often imported from unstable parts of the world. The best way to break this addiction is through technology. Since 2001, we have spent nearly $10 billion to develop cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable alternative energy sources -- and we are on the threshold of incredible advances.

So tonight, I announce the Advanced Energy Initiative -- a 22-percent increase in clean-energy research -- at the Department of Energy, to push for breakthroughs in two vital areas. To change how we power our homes and offices, we will invest more in zero-emission coal-fired plants, revolutionary solar and wind technologies, and clean, safe nuclear energy.

We must also change how we power our automobiles. We will increase our research in better batteries for hybrid and electric cars, and in pollution-free cars that run on hydrogen. We'll also fund additional research in cutting-edge methods of producing ethanol, not just from corn, but from wood chips and stalks, or switch grass. Our goal is to make this new kind of ethanol practical and competitive within six years. Breakthroughs on this and other new technologies will help us reach another great goal: to replace more than 75 percent of our oil imports from the Middle East by 2025. By applying the talent and technology of America, this country can dramatically improve our environment, move beyond a petroleum-based economy, and make our dependence on Middle Eastern oil a thing of the past.

I agree it is 'Lip service' till it becomes or does not become a reality... Like all these speeches.. they are designed as a rallying call.. i can appreciate that....

    Speaking of (Applause)...

I think the speech would be half as long if people didn't have to clap after EVERY SINGLE thing the president said...jesus...it was REALLY annoying and DISTRACTING.

I'll beleive he'll fund alternative fuels when there is money going into.....alternative fuel manufature. Until then, it's lip service. His family is in bed with the Saudis AND made more than a Billion dollars on oil. He won't be trying to hard to fund alternative fuels. Watch the BP commercials, NOT A WORD about alternative fuels, just "better use" stuff. What he wants is to destroy forests in Alaska, not invest in wind or solar power. When I see the solar generators going up COURTESY of the US government, I'll retract my "Lip Service" comment. :)

You're right, it was a pep rally. I hated them in High School, I hate them now.

The thing is NO ONE is going to call him on the carpet when these alternative fuels don't get a cent and are never used. No, they will be too busy blaming the next Dem president (whenever that will be) for "tax and spend" while he or she is paying for the Iraq War which Dubya started, and has NO way to pay for. He'll just let it fall on the next Dem in office.

Yeah the whole thing seems kinda like a farce, an ancient ritual with strict practices - grand entrance, speech, clap, speech, clap, standing republicans, frowning democrats...very well rehearsed. I wouldn't take anything said in these too seriously....

I'll believe his "clean enegry research" and development when I see it. Nuclear energy is far too heavily relied upon, IMO.

Yep. Oil, to make the Bush family rich, and Atomic Power to screw up the world. WHY when Bush says our Nuclear Program (excuse me, NuKaler) is for power, is that OK, but when an other country says it, they are automatically "terrorists" and obviously planning to use those nukes for bombs. ONLY the USA has EVER used Nukes as bombs.
