I know all about the risk of smoking, I mean I 've seen half of my family sick or dead because they smoke... I do not smoke but I am curious about a few things... Are there any cigarettes that aren't that harmful? I've seen so many brands and diferent kinds, there must be one that isn;t all that bad... Tabacco is a plant and many plants are beneficial... It's mostly all the other stuff they put in the cigarets that is actualy harmful, although I may be wrong about this... Thats why I'm asking for view and thoughts on this... I'd apreciate it... remember I don't smoke so don't come out and tell me to quit. hehe
pot in and of itself can also be beneficial but its the carcinegins (sp?) that are harmful to the lungs.
If the cigarettes are not made from tobacco they may be free of nicotine. Have you seen the herbal cigarettes some natural food places sell? I've never tried them so I don't know too much about them. I don't know anything about the health risks either; I've seen them a couple times and have always wondered... Peace & Love
oh i would definately want to know how the taste and if they have any side effects, which i doubt cause if they're natural they shouldnt. oh i wanna , i wanna
It is the tobacco in cigarrettes that is harmful. Given, in most commercial brands there are additional toxins (from pesticides to preservatives) also. But nicotine is contained in the tobacco and that's the #1 chemical that smokers are addicted to. The other thing about smoking tobacco is that the smoke coats your lungs in a tar-based resin, which will never really clear out. Many other herbs, like marijuana, have an oil-based resin, which will clear out with a productive cough (and has even been known to help clear other contaminants from the lungs). A few years ago, I remember reading a longterm study that was performed, which proved that marijuana smoke actually did no long-term damage to the lungs in the way tobacco does - they partially credited this to the oil/tar difference. Tobacco is still a plant. It CAN still have medical and spiritual uses. When ingested, it can kill intestinal parasites. I've also known spiritual healers who use the plant's energy in their work. Hell, I've even known a lot of people who smoke it and stay completely healthy. But they use it as a sacrament - a once-in-a-while thing. They don't abuse it as most "real" smokers do. Anything can be bad for the body in excess.
American Spirit brand are still tobacco but a lot of them are additive free, so i guess they would be a 'better' cigarette (if there is such a thing) but look into herbal blends that you can smoke in a pipe or rolled paper mullein for instance is actually good for your lungs & has been used by native peoples & modern herbalists to ease respiratory infections
mullen is awesome for resp infections because it is a kind of expectorant. it's not really great for everyday smoking kind of thing, because it will make you cough(it's supposed to) but it will be a very productive cough!
Oh yeah, and it's easy to find wild - the leaves are broad and fuzzy, and the stalks are long. Every year the stalk stays up and keeps growing, so sometimes (a lot of times by the side of the road) you'll see old mullen stalks that are like 8 feet high...
well....you CAN! i did & i smoked a pack a day for about seven years straight i quit in 2000 & haven't looked back! i feel soooo much better & hardly ever get the nasty upper respiratory infections i used to....let me know if you decide to give it a try. we'll all send TONS of love & support your way!
JUST DO IT! Seriously, the biggest roadblock to quitting smoking is people building it up in their heads as something that going to be so hard, an impossible (or nearly so) task. Just relax, meditate, and tell your MIND that you're over it. After you MENTALLY become a nonsmoker, it makes it much easier to go through the physical part of it. And don't give me "but it's been too long" for an excuse, because I smoked for like 8 years - I went through an entire can of american spirit tobacco in a week (by myself) and it took me all of 5 minutes to quit. It's all in your head.
