Sorry I've not been about - Been working a whole lot. "Those imprisoned within the flesh" might be more appropriate. Christ didn't come to save our flesh. Salvation comes by applying His principles and practices, not because His flesh was somehow endowed with magical power or something else that sounds very ironically similar to that old evil witchcraft so poorly spoken of. Not so strange. Unless we were made as humans first, and have let the animals be a bad influence on us, that might explain these irresistable urges to fling poo....
Christ didn't come to save our flesh my take is that xtians fully expect that their "resurrectrion" will include body, and "heaven" will be on earth ~ ie physicality. similar to that old evil witchcraft so poorly spoken of "similar"? ~ more like identical, including "sacrifice cults". Unless we were made as humans first, and have let the animals be a bad influence on us, that might explain these irresistable urges to fling poo.... The interesting thing about the chimp study is that the chimp tribe was chosen because it was in an area that had never ben contacted by humans, meaning their behaviour was unadulterated and most certainly un-learned. Animals were supposedly made before humankind, no? oiu? Why would humans being "made in god's image" imitate apes? If we imitate anything it is the attributes of "god" ~ jealousy, vengeance, warlike. If the cap fits.........
Most do, you're right. This isn't what Christ offers though... He wanted us to learn how to sever our attachment to the material (the flesh). Some people are just so attached to *this* type of existence, they don't want to let go of it. Which is ultimately the greatest failure - Materialism. Not exactly identical, IMO. I used to practice witchcraft, and it was more about honoring the power within... At least within our group. We "made" charms and amulets - Physical objects with alleged "special powers". Many Christians believe that Christ's flesh and blood itself had a mysterious mystical quality endowed by G-d. But that misses the point entirely. Because that's the nature of the human beast. We battle against those urges of the flesh, to rise above and appeal to that which is "like G-d" in us. There's still a significant difference between the other primates and humans, the development of self-expression, i.e. desire and ability to create art/poetry/literature. There still has to be a division line, no matter how small it is. An awakening of a sense of self, who desires peace and an ending to suffering. That's where G-d comes in.
in god's image means god has emotions we have emotions god is love we were made to love we are in his image he is refered to as male so people can relate to him better.
