Why is it that this is supposed to be a forum for and about hippies but every time I or someone else uses the term "hippie" to describe something, tries to define the term, or seeks clarification on the term, they get flamed? It's always followed by a bunch of posts saying stuff like "you shouldn't try to be a hippie" or "it's not something you become, it's something you are" or "trying to be a hippie makes you not one" or "why are you so stuck on a label?" and other crap like that with no real help for the OP. If the hippie ideal is supposed to be about love and acceptance, why is everyone so judgemental of everyone else? I'm new to this lifestyle and still integrating, but every time I try to learn more or ask an honest question, I get flames.
I believe thats because many on here are anti label and segragation so the whole hippie thing is just viewed as something put out by the media to try and market the notion of freethinking individuals. Idk I guess it's also kinda contradicting anyways because if a hippie is just a word for a freethinking openminded individual isn't that what all humans are at heart?
I think there have been so many posts lately about "what is a hippie" by newbies in this forum that people are getting tired of replying, because all the newbie has to do is search this forum to get a general idea. A common complaint of boards when there are a lot of regulars I guess... but I can understand why newbies would post these things - they want to start posting to become part of the community, and when they're just a beginner those are the things they're usually going to post about. Anyway, welcome aboard, and thanks for your interest! Stick around, it's a pretty cool place sometimes.
One of my favorite outfits, actually. Depending on my mood, I either dress tomboy, flower child, or punk. That day was a punk day.
for these reasons: we're not being mean, we're just telling you the truth be yourself, i wonder how many times i've said that it's good that you want to be LIKE a hippie in the ways of "peace" and "love" and all but don't get about it like it's something that you get on-the-job training for it's not even availible to tell the truth as many people have stated, hippies were back in the 60s not nowadays - being a hippie anyways that's just it though, it's an IDEAL people can't be ideals just stop trying to be something that requires you to change who you are or change your image if you're all about love and peace or are anti-war/pro-drugs or living on a commune go for it just don't say "yeah, i'm a hippie because of those things" got that? =)
I like to think that being a hippie is more or less a "state of mind" and not how you dress or what kind of music you listen to.
I see it the same way..it is a state of mind. The real hippies were from back in the day..it was a movement. One that I'm very proud took place. The most important thing is being yourself, and doing what makes you happy. Oh, and I think your outfit is cute..
CUTE? She may be a very sweet person, but she looks like something out of a Robert Crumb cartoon. LOSE THOSE HIDEOUS BOOTS! And, what's with the Scottish cheer-leader kilt? My God, a deranged drag-queen wouldn't be caught dead in that outfit.
Those boots are lovely and so is the skirt in my opinion. A deranged drag queen wouldnt be caught in something so classy yet punk. The clothes suit you as far as i can see. Thoud id love to see you flower child and tomboy days!!
I guess that would be your opinion. Why hurt someones feelings? I was always taught if I didn't have anything nice to say, to just keep my mouth shut. Edit.. I mean no disrespect to you..I just hate to see someone get their feelings hurt over something so petty.
Well, she's not capturing the 58 year old male demographic... That wasn't an insult to anyone, just a thought - different folks, different strokes?
