I'm sorry its a real shame when you hear bonnaroo being promoted on MTV Yeah thats right, tonight as I was flipping throught the channels I hear "Bonnaroo" as i'm skimming. Thinking I must be dreaming I quickly flip back to see a 30min clip on bonnaroo with video from last year and the artisit line of for this year on MTV. I have never really have a view on if Bonnaroo has gotten to commerical. I just kept telling myself it was about the music, and if you really loved the music you could block out the hipster that go for different reasons. I've been to bonnaroo, i've experienced it,even last year was kinda different(though the two night of widespread were great) and i'm now afriad to say it but its truely become commerical and I will no longer be attending I'm not saying everyone has to feel the same way as myself, but I hope you can deal with all the hipster fucks better than I can Things I'd rather do than go to Bonnaroo: 1. Attend another festival (one that MtV doesn't know about yet) 2. Read a whole book (you could probably do this waiting in 13 hours of traffic outside of Bonnaroo though) 3. Listen to Jam Bands that should be playing at Bonnaroo(because last year at roo someone camping two tents away was blastin CRAP-RAP the hole time...I mean come on people when you have to hear fuck those trick bitches and dumb hoes YEAHAAAHHHHH....it was terrible)
Scroo the 'Roo! Come to Wakarusa in Lawrence KS June 8-11. Wakarusa is a lot closer for you than Bonnaroo. Also check out www.theschwag.com You'll be glad you did. Schwagstock is a wonderful monthly event that takes place deep in the Ozark Mtns. of Southern MO. Matisyahu was the only rap I heard at Wakarusa.... www.wakarusa.com
Bonnaroo being such a large event is bound to get some media attention. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's being promoted on MTV, not by choice at least. I guess you have to see the ad to tell, though. I mean, just because it was featured on MTV doesn't mean the people behind Bonnaroo contacted MTV in order to have a clip played. I very well may be wrong, though. I see your point, and I'm sure quite a few people are going to feel the same way.
WHO FUCKING CARES......I GO FOR THE MUSIC 1.Medeski Martin and Wood 2.Moe. 3.TOM PETTY AMD THE MOTHERFUCKIN HEARTBREAKERS! 4.Radiohead 5.Phil Lesh 6.Buddy Guy 7.Beck!! 8.Soulive 9.Bill Friswell 10.Atmosphere AND THE LIST GOES ON GO FOR THE FUCKING MUSIC! AND THERE ARE MORE ADDITIONS TO COME! And I'm sorry that you can't listen to a wide variety of music because your missing out on what trip hop, rap, electronica and other kinds of music has to offer- Listen to the roots or the perceptionists, or pharcyde for once, they talk about meaning ful subjects like war, poverty, how violence is bad.....I used to think the same way...if its not jam band ...its not goood enough for me...then realized some of the stuff i was missing out on.
hell yea toker, I'll see ya there too, I better bring some phillies this year lol, cause no one seemed to have them last year. I'm going for the bands, I love how it's so fuckin huge, you can get lost there. It's a fun time. Only thing that sucks is how th ey charge so much for tix. I heard wakarusa has some crazy bugs, read stories of kids having to shave their dreadies off after the fest. Anyone care to comment? MAN fucking SOULIVE and MMW back for this year, I am so happy...
i dont go to bonnaroo anymore because ive mad emy peace with it the first three years. especially the first two when it was ours an dno one elses. but enough bashing. and wakarussa aint that AMAZING. im enjoying the diversity of the music, but with that will bring a shithouse crowd, bound to happen in any large gathering. radiohead and beck should be sweet. keep it positive people.
yhere's another way of looking at it: if the mass groupthink is exposed to alternative (really alternative) viewpoints, music and politics, isn't that a point at which social education and change can take place? when some clueless kiddies pop up at the fests I attend, people train them how to behave and what's expected at this particular fest (some have no dogs, yay, and some need people to be very discreet with extralegal substances, for example) So if some 13 y-o who hasn't leanred there is music beyond radio sees this ... cultural manifistation... perhaps some eyes, ears and hearts can open.
Hell yea man....I WAS SOO HOPING FOR SOULIVE AND MMW to come back for 05' and they ARE........the line up is amazing its so worth the 165$ because next to all the music they have an air conditionded cinema tent (which saved my life last year cause it was so hot and humid) the silent disco arcade....playground..........MY LORD IM EXCITED EVERYONE START PRAYING FOR NO RAIN, TO WHICHEVER GOD YOU WORSHIP NOOOOOOOO RAIN
psychedelic toker- I'm glad to hear you say you go for the music and not the sence, and as you can read I stated that in my post as well. I'm not afriad of diversity in music and acutally think its quite rad. Radiohead happens to be one group I really dig, and am sad I missed them the last time they played at Alpine there is not a bad line up as you said Phil leash, beck, Radiohead, Blues travelers, Moe!!, Soulive!!, buddy guy, Damien marley As for Rap, hip-hop ect...please do not tell me that i don't enjoy different kinds of music I've seen the perceptionists 3 times, Atmosphere 2 times, Sage Francis 3 times. Especailly Sage brings a deeper meaning through his words and its not just mumble jumble profanity. That was the kind of "Crap-Rap" I was speaking of in my experience from Bonnaroo last year. Music that degrates women.
I was there and didn't have any problems with bugs. Then again I had the good sense not to sleep on the bare ground. KS summers are much drier than TN summers so that means less bugs.
The fact that it was featured on Mtv wouldn't make me to decide not to go (like I could actually get there in the first place anyway), I was just making the point that it may stop other people who were otherwise planning on going.
boo hoo hoo cry a river, im glad your not attending, one less peice of crap to deal with. its not about whos promoting it, its about the music and thats what im there for.
Stop the freaking who's fest is best crap (cause my pet fest is better ;P ) Waka has merits tyhe Roo has merits and if you were a band witha small following who had to chose, if you had and OUNCE of biz sense, you'd do the Roo. Hopefully no band has to make that decision, but they do come up.
If it's true Tom Petty and Radiohead will be at Roo this year, then this year will be better than last year. Since I have so many things going on, I likely will not be able to make it. If only they had been there last year...
the roo is just too big. when i was there the first years, 70 thousand was too big. but add another 20 thousand people? fuck that....
the fact remains that bonnaroo has changed, alot. i dont think it changed for the better. that has nothing to do with my decision to not go last year or to not go this year. and yeah i am going to wakarusa this year. im just gonna be closer to it, and ive wanted to hit it up. alos most of my favorite bands are playin wakarusa, and most of the bands at bonnaro i really dont care to see. but the roo is still a fun event, anyone with the chance to go should go.
