Are there any older hippies here that either live or have lived in that area. I would love to get to know more about the Haight first hand from someone who was actually there during the late 60's.
I was there -I think that was me-hard to tell at times-reality was very blurry back then-I don't want to promote drug use; but most of the people around me in 65 and 66; were using very powerful LSD-It was new-wonderful and best of all-LEGAL!-till 67-I have great memories that last a lifetime-My only regret was deciding not to make the drive down to Monterey for the Pop festival-but' All the perfomers were already playing in the city at the Avalon and Fillmore; so I think it just seemed like a long way to go to hear Jimi Hendrix; Jefferson Airplane Big Brother And The Holding Co.-The Who' Mamas and Pappas-The Animals-and on and on-It's about 100 mile drive-If I had it to do over-I would have made it on down there-but hey nobody can be at all the parties all the time-it's fun tryin though!-May you stay forever young-
T he Haight Ashbury was safe and friendly when the long hairs first started moving there-It was like a small community and was unheard of by anyone outside San Francisco-It could have been any community anywhere actually-In 1970 I was in Amsterdam and it reminded me alot of the Haight-just the friendly faces and high times-But alas-All things must pass-So-ya take that good feeling you had going for a couple years and move to the country with like minded souls-It's not the place that matters[ but the people who live there-and like anything else-it's what you make it-Don't look for a good time-you ARE a good time-don't look outside yourself for fun-find it in your own heart first-make youself laugh out loud-tell yourself a private joke!-then tell it to others-
I was there--twice--in 1967 and again in 1968, but I'm about tired of talking about it. Go back over the archives for the past 8 or 9 months-- the stories are there somewhere.
