I'm trying to regulate my menustral cycle. It's never been even. I can go for months without one, then have two in one month. The slightest bit of stress will kill what rhythm I have, and as soon as I get one again, the PMS stresses me out again. The doctor says that as long as I have three per year, it's okay, but I'd like a normal 28 day cycle. I also am a bit leery of taking birth control. Religious family members. Are there any natural methods I can use?
According to your profile you're 21 -do you have to tell them? Just get some BC and don't tell them. Or be up front and let them know you're taking it only as a medication to help you be regular and not for its primary purpose, or are they the kind who're also against non-BC meds? I've taken BC for many years since it helped me be regular and have less cramps while I had no relationship and no desire to have one. I'm not religious so I wouldn't care if it had served as a real BC method as well, but it is not uncommon for women to take the pill as 'medicine'.
i can sympathize with the lack of a predictable cycle...i've never had one either. drives me nuts at times, have considered BC but don't really like the idea of putting something so unnatural in my body. wish i had some helpful suggestions, but i'm still trying to figure out what to do myself. just thought i'd share...
Have you talked with your doc about possible causes for this irregularity? Do you have any other symtoms? Such a thing can be a sign of several hormonal imbalances, polycystic ovarian syndrome, or thyroid problems. Get a complete physical and see if anything comes up! A lot of the time, if you know what's imbalanced, small dietary and excercise changes can improve your regularity. Good luck!
I have taken BC at one time to regulate my cycle, also to help with cramps & migrane headaches. It did not help any of them. Maybe the kind I was on wasn't right for my body. I just stoppped taking them because it did not do anything -
If your doctor doesn't take this seriously, you should go get a second opinion. Unless you are very athletic or very very thin, there is a hormone imbalance that if not addressed now could become a huge problem for you later in life. I'd ask specifically about PCOS if I were you. Do some research on your own and see if you have any of the other symptoms.
