Hey folks...lighter thread then my last couple, but I'm in the process of trying to buy a house, still searching and such, but I'm not sure as to why I'm so friggin' nervous about the whole process...

Everything seems to be going OK, the credit's swell and I've got a couple of cool prospects around Lake Hopatcong here in Jersey, but I keep having twitches & spasms about the whole thing...

It all seems so straight forward and everything I need to know has been done millions of times before but never by me and I'm sweating...and I can't figure out why.

advice or comments from anyone that can relate or that've just bought a house would be much appreciated...

I remember when I was buying my first house, and my biggest fear was that I was 'really putting down some roots'. I was used to moving every year to two years and living in different parts of the city, and having the mobility.

right now i would love to buy a house but the time isnt right. i cannot understand your fears and anxiety, however. it's a big change and huge commitment.

however, im sure if you use your brain everything will be fine and you'll be VERY happy w/ it. :)

I had some funky things growing up concerning homesteads that still get me thinking even though I'm 34 now...I know I've got everything set to go but for some reason I still have a little bit o' panic now & then...

Figured I'd throw in a call for some "Attaboys" or "Gogettums" heh heh..

I bought my first home 2½ years ago, and for the first six months I would get up at 3:00 a.m. and pace back and forth on the cement path wondering if I had done the right thing.

There is a certain amount of uncertainty; what if I loose my job, what if I need cash, what if I want to move, what if I have termites, what if the pipes burst... And then the whole thing begins to feel like a crap shoot. Miss a payment, have it ALL TAKEN AWAY.

Well, it doesn't QUITE work like that. It is a scary time and things take time to happen. While you're waiting you look at other things or people tell you their stories and opinions (whether solicited or unsolicited) and you begin to get a feeling of uncertainty.

Morris County, Lake Hopatcong and the whole area is beautiful, prime real estate. That is where my parents dated during a summer. It's close to NYC so that you can get there if you need to, yet far enough away so that if you never want to go there you are still nestled in your New Jersey home.

    It's going to be okay!

I Think anyone who Spend's an Absurd Amount of Money they dont have on a House on a Small Slice of Shity land and Then have to pay for it for a good chunk of your Life would be sweating too...i'll never buy a house...it's insanity...Want my advice though it may not be the popular opinion..Buy a Large chunk of Rural land for a fraction of the Price and Build yourself..it's alot easier than you think ,and alot less expensive...and the Land is YOURS.
