i would like to say as a hippie from the 60's that i fought so hard for women's rights, civil rights and human rights. we fought hard because we were coming out of the uptight 50's where women had no rights and the only thing to do was to get married and have children. i was there to burn my bra and protest for equal work equal pay. i am a retired rape crisis counselor and i do believe that women of today are putting up with way too much abuse in their relationships. i do motivational speaking at the colleges in sacramento california and it amazes me how many young women come up to me after my talks and tell me they are in abusive relationships and don't know what to do. i feel that the women's movement had suffered for strong leadership today just as the civil rights movement had suffered. nearly all of the civil rights leaders of the 50's and 60's are gone, either passed on or were assassinated. we just lost coretta king, the mother of the civil rights movement. i feel that women (of all ages) need to get involved and stand up for their rights as equals. angel www.stayhuman.org
teepi, you are a wise wise womyn, who can say what I agree with in a gentler manner than I am usually capable of. I {big puffy heart} teepi!!!! Feminism cannot just be distilled into "dykes who burned expesive bras" there is and was a lot more to it than that, and in earlier posts, I have stated a few problems I have with Classic 70s style feminism, mainly forgetting that mothers are imporant. What teepi said about doing what is important when it is imporant is key. A womyn who now feels she HAS to put her babies into day care, when she would rather not, work 50 hours a week, and still do most of the housework and cooking ect is just as limited and "unliberated" as the womyn who werent allowed to leave home, or spent all their days doing nothing but keeping an immaculate house in the 50s. We've come a ways, but there is still a lot of work to do. Men and womyn wroking on life together (OK, if you are gay, it's a different issue, that's fine) is what needs to be done, so things can work.
Big Ol Puffy HEART back to you Sister Maggie!! I love when I see companys that have employees working from home and places that provide daycare on site....alas it is usually fortune 500 comp and the like that do that. Sad that a tremendous amount of women do not work in those types of jobs. So yes, it does come down to women NOT having a choice when they have children and poppa's paycheck can't cover the bills....Important lesson you gave there Rob about getting in debt..thanks See taht joyous pic in Maggies post of that little free spirit?? THAT is at least what all our yards should look like. The more we become self sufficiant..the less we are controlled by greed and whims of the so called powers that be. Debt keeps you in the clutches..when in debt you MUST continue to pay no matter what. Teach your children well... Credit companies can go to hell. Yes we must all find a way to live what is important to us. I would love to see more communal type situations for woman who want to work and live with their children right there with them. I am not leaving the men out of this equation, it just would be nice to have more support for single mothers who are forced to have to work a hell of alot of hours away from their kids... gotta go cook a meal..hahaha
I'd love to be able to vote. I'll have just turned 17 the next election, though, so I've gotta wait until the election of 2012.
Teepi-Good stuff but I didn't understand what reference you were making using my name-We must remember us old guys get short term memory loss-Ya know-I think sitting on the hard ass floor of Winterland dead center stage and 10 ft. in front of Blue Cheer and a million watts of freight train coming through my Owsely soaked head' may have done a little-(I hate to use the word damage)mental alterations-and ear drum ass kickin!-But hey-It was fun as hell-dumb as that sounds-So-Teepi-Lets get some land up here and invite in about a hundred nice people-people that don't whine much and love life-good and bad-everybody completely equal and no leaders. but a council that everyone sits on at one time or another-true democracy without the back room bribes-Gee! What a concept!-Maybe that was the origonal plan way back when-are ya ready to head west again?
Aww I meant to say "important lesson "there" Rob about getting into debt" as in "it can come back and bite cha in the ass"... I fixed it.. Our goverment will never be out of debt therefore this country will never be...so all you can really do about it is to teach the younggins that debt can eat you alive..it follows you around and can even screw up getting a job nowadays. Or renting a place and buying a place...teach them to look at what they are paying in the end for an item instead of looking at the 'low monthly payment'... My Bandwagon soapbox...learn to do and fix everything on your own that you possibly can, keep the gov and big brother and loan people and creditors out of your life..they will suck you dry. What a glorious idea Robo...I loved living at the park...it was the best..and great people around..no one screwing with anyone else...coming together to eat at the free kitchen, bringing what you had to offer..some days more..some less. Then building a huge bonfire and about 20-30 people sitting around it passing the goatskins and jugs and doobs and Larry and others playing guitars and people joining in with song....ahhhh then stumbling off in two's or whatever(lol) and finding your way under the northern lights to your humble tipi or leanto or cabin...and letting the crickets and frogs lull you off to dreamland.... Sorry...I'm off topic here.....*steps off box****** Learn to recycle and buy used items...yard sales are treasure hunts.
