JD and N.O. are GREAT IMO. Isnt there a movie coming out soon about Ian Curtis' life and death? Anyway I have Joy Divisions greatest hits and it gets listened to all the time, its just one of those cds ya know. And considering how I play keyboard and love any 80s/new wave/Synth music i think new Order are the best for 8 minute instrumentals, Unique beats and intriguing lyrics. i have almost every New Order disc made except The stuff sumner did with the Smiths' Johnny Marr. (electronic), even though it was okay. Anybody listen to Electronic ever?

i have bad memories associated with joy division..... i didnt know any of the history about the guy killing hmself, but my ex, dead boyfriend played them to me, and i was tres stoned, to the point of psychosis and i was tripped out alot my the music..it was really dark..... and then fuck, i found out about im killing himself...

i dont like the music... its hideously disturbing..... i like harmonies and happy vibes in my music. not fucking spazzed out brain damage.

JD were a cool band - though their stuff does seem to lend itself to people of a darker disposition. I used to love their music some years back... 'she's lost control' was a fave of mine. 'Transmission' and 'love will tear us apart' are somewhat easier to listen to though. - New Order never really did it for me.

On New Order - A classic case of a band that were almost great but ultimately mediocre. Instrumentally they were very strong - some great riffs and some interesting synthesized rhythms - this was sadly let down by poor and seemingly uninspired lyrics and weak vocals. I guess IC was the difference.

they were heavily influenced by northern soul music. lots of their riffs are just old soul riffs, but given a cold manchester modern production. live they wernt as cold sounding. ive got live bootlegs and they sound like the stooges!

i agree. i have listened to the joy division. their music is so deeply dark that i would never, ever risk it under the influence of anything other than alcohol.

  18. There isn't much music around with the same sense of reality and darkness and detachment. I LOVE IT. I have all of the albums and none of the songs are really that dark that it would alter your mood. I must already be of a gloomy disposition

I think some of the songs are inspiring, almost challenging us to live and not make the same mistake. ie. uuuuuuuurgh aaaaaargh uk uk

It's been out a while already - it's actually about Tony Wilson and his Hacienda club but Joy Division feature strongly - ..... it's called "24 Hour Party People" - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0274309/combined

I mentioned JD's "24 Hours" in the "sad song" thread in the main music forum. Excellent band.
