i just listened to alittle bit of them last night, and i gotta say that they are so hyped up...they rock, but they arent anything special as far as im concerned. NME rated their new album the 5th best british album of all time...yeesh...good on them for most likely becoming the fastest selling album in the UK, but i think they have a long ways to go.
I've been into them for a while now, should hear the original demos. They have a certain edge to them which the album doesn't acheive. I also like a really great new band from Sheffield, whom i happen to think are quite superior, musically and in terms of TUNES. Check them out at http://www.littlemantate.co.uk or listen immedietly at http://www.myspace.com/littlemantatemusic Really, really good. If you like the tunes, make a point of seeing them play, they are abut 40 times better than on record. Amazing.
No, no my freind. I've always failed to see the comparison between the two, apart form the devotion of the fans. Different musically, better attitude. You look at A.T. in 2 years time and you can bet he wont be a washed up waster
You can say whatever you want, but there's a lot of The Libertines in The Arctic Monkeys. A.T. is a good band and I award them all their success, but actually they are now getting the recognition that The Libertines should have gotten.
I'm glad it wasn't just me that thought that was a bit weird. NME are so totally into the AM's it's scary. I like the guys, but I'm not that crazy about them! Good luck to them though, the last fastest selling album was Hear-say or something, and no-one remembers them now... probably because they suck but hey. AM have got to carry on with the good tunes if they want to stick around
They're pretty damn good. MY favorite song is probably Fake Tales Of San Francisco...or The View From The Afternoon
To me, the NME = News Of The World of music. I can't believe a word they say apart from the gig calendar. As for the band, I'm not convinced. I heard the album and I wasn't really taken aback. I haven't seen them live except for on TV and it's obvious to me they're better live than on album, but I'm still not convinced. But apparently a lot of people are, because people are parting with money to buy their album, so they are connecting with an audience, and more power to them. But I had a friend try to say they're the best Sheffield band ever (over Pulp), and that's just a sign of over-hype, at least for now.
its kinda hard not to have heard of them but i think theyre still really good.well done to them for selling so many cds in the first week and beating the record previously held by the beatles
I have the album and I really like it. Seems to me though that when a band gets hyped up then it becomes cool not to like them anymore and give out about the hype. I don't bother with what the music magazines say, I let my ears decide. They've given the Arctic Monkeys the thumbs up.
That's a good mentality to have. I only say I'm not convinced because I have heard their music and that's what I'm not convinced by. Yet. I hear their live show is fantastic, so I look forward to seeing them at some point.
they have some good songs, but im always wary of bands that have such huge hype surrounding a release, or when they are said to be the next big thing. all that ever happens is they get flogged on the radio, and you end up shelving the album cos your sick of hearing it! my 2 cents.
Ok, I've downloaded their CD and listened to it a couple of times. Very energetic, slightly retro with a good rythm section. They sorta remind me of The Strokes. Good mustic but I'm not sure it is worthy of all the hype it's receiving.
well i think they are great when they first came out but once the media got their claws into them, they seemed to be discussed everywhere even in the news. (which was hard to avoid – really was over discussing there lyrics and music ability needed) I feel sorry for them because imo once this starts happening some people will begin to think are they overrated ??? which is what I am facing now.
I like the chorus to that "I'll bet you look good on the dancefloor" song, the rest of the song is ok, but the chorus kicks ass.
