actually, in ancient rome the hookers had to bleach their hair blonde like the slaves being imported from the north so that they wouldn't offend the higher classes (ie. dark haired). it's only in our heavily northern european society that blondes have been the preference, & that hasn't been true the world over, naturally. the preference for blondes is also fairly recent & i think fairly short lived.
