If you're not a hippy, why are you here?

I ask myself this question on occasion. I don't consider myself a hippy and no one I know would describe me as such. I can't say any of my friends would be described that way, either. So what am I doing on an online forum for hippies?

I think a lot of my tendencies lean this direction, that's why. Of course the word "hippy" can be used to describe a huge range of people. The reason I relate to it is because I ignore popular ambitions and materialism, I like to smoke pot on occasion, I believe that peace and love are of utmost importance, and I just like to hang out and feel the vibe of good places and people and music.

It's like you have a certain type of hippy who has dreads and doesn't eat animals and fights for the environment and goes to drum circles and makes tie-dyes and...well, you know what I'm talking about. There are plenty of you here. God bless you. And then there are the sort who are rednecks but without the hatred and intolerance. You guys are my favorite. And you have the trust fund hippies and the fashion hippies and all the rest.

Where do I fit in? I'd say I relate most to the redneck hippies, but I'm not a redneck. I grew up in an area with lots of asshole rednecks, and I always thought it was great when I met someone who could skin a deer and loved to drink cheap beer but wasn't a rascist asshole and knew how to roll a good J and just chill out with the chickens and cats and work a grill and bask in the simple glories of life.

Yeah. That's what I'm talkin' about.

Now I guess I'm sort of a waiter beachbum sort. Work's an ultra-high-energy affair entailing way too many hours in a restaurant on the beach. Once I'm off, though, I go into total relaxation mode. I'm happy to sit and stare at the waves and relax with like-minded individuals and enjoy life as it is in this crazy-ass world we live in. Or chill on my patio early in the morning with a good cup of coffee and a good book while the cat stares eagerly at the lizards scurrying through the mulch.

theres more than just "hippy" stuff here. besides, nowadays i think "hippy" refers to the entire counterculture, not the same meaning it had in the 60s.

Ya, that always cracks me up. I had a person yell the word hippy at me like an insult & I replied , "Hey, man...do I look mad? Haha." Then they said, "okay, well...pothead!!" & I said, "Is that supposed to be worse?". Haha. Then I just started pointing out obvious things about her..."Blondey!"..."Girl that wears shoes!". I was entertained.

Haha, isn't skinning a dear pissing you off especially after watching that PETA video?? Haha. Pfft. I am used to that growdie taxidermy stuff from my uncle's cabin in eastern Washington. It's weird decoration...ain't it?

the link wouldnt work for me but its enough cuz i was up late the other night and there was some dead nugent shit on VH1 and people had to compete to be a hilbilly on it i guess...and there was this chick that was an animal rights activist and they got pissed cuz she wouldnt help kill the dear but the poor thing was just lying dead in the truck with his tongue spilt out...i wanted to cry

and all that damn hilbilly did was call her "one of those tofu bitches!"

i happen to enjoy tofu damnit.

 

last time i ate tofu i got sick, and i havent eaten sincethen. but where I live now theres no place that sells tofu food, except walmart, but im not allowed in there and wouldnt if i could.

tofu from walmart...ewww that cant be too healthy i get mine from some asian store near my cousins house...its packed pretty good and i eat it with seaweed so its delicious...at least in my opinion

theres no asian stores here, but there are two restaurants. I wouldnt dare eat at them if my life depended on it, those places are nasty. and they are owned by the same family, which means that one cant really be better or cleaner then the other. I miss China Buffet back in new york

I don't think I'm a hippy. I look like a hippy, but past that, I'm not. I think people put hippies on a pedestal, and I don't want to be apart of that. So, I'm not. And theres some cool rednecks here, lol, they all listen to rap. Literally, like all of them, it's hilarious.

labels aren't that important. This place has people who are relaxed and open and free-spirited and have a sense of humor that's why I come. I've stopped worrying about whether I am considered a "hippy" or not, because I've found from my own experience it is often (but not always) the kids who declare their hippydom the most who are most superficial. Plus, I have violent urges sometimes and have had a bad experience with lots of really flakey, superficial kids... so I wouldn't call myself I hippy. But I love these forums, we don't worry about labels it is just a nice little corner of the web you can come here to chill out and kill time.

labels are bullllllll i agree with you this place rules...everyone (well most) is a lot less close minded then the people im surrounded by in my daily life...i enjoy it

Why do I come here? To me, it is a great place for debate. I love debate. I really love debate when the people debating are inteligent and bring interesting things to the table. I hate getting labled and yet honestly I see a lot of that here. I guess you can never get away from somethings in life. Because I support the effort in Iraq, because I am a Christain, because I am against homosexual marriage, I am labled. Oh well, even with the name calling a rudness that I have found here, there are a lot of people that I believe truly care. It's those people that I enjoy debating with.

LOL, I think that is everywhere you go. Here in houston it is quite often you can see a jacked up 4x4 chevy just freshly dirtied from mudding jamming some popular rap artists song.

Do I view myself as a hippy? No, in my minds eye a hippy always gives me the image known in the 60's and 70's. Long and or wild hair, spaced out voice, and a general "lets take it slow" kinda attitude. To my friends and family that realy know me, I am far from this. Some of my views would seem harsh to some and somewhat comunistic. I disagree with them of course, but then again, I love debate. Sad, I never took debate in school.

Oh, and I love hunting. I just hate cleaning the animals. I will never shoot anything I wont eat. So when I hunt, I clean it, and it comes home to feed my family. I figure, if wild animals can hunt to feed themselves and their young, why can't I?

I'm pretty much the same way, I love debate. All my friend's say I should either be on the debate team or a preacher(I talk like one). I only fight about stuff I'm into, I can't just pick a topic and start fighting, so debate team is out of the question.

no i moved here from new york last summer and had to start a new school. but then i got expelled in may at this school, and im not aloud back there till im 21. luckily i found another school that will take me. but i only plan on staying in this school for a year, then go to another school my senior year.

i like to travel, i cant really stand staying in the same place for too long anymore. and I cant picture me staying in a high school for more than a year. that would be weird. oh, i got expelled for marijuana....

 

heh thats so cool travelings great i love to road trip unfortunatly my parents would never have it...yours must be pretty chill if you cant stand being in a high school for more than a year come down to mine and keep me company...god knows im bored outta my mind in school (no one fun or exciting there :H )
