I'm 19 and have bought alcohol before, but recently I lost my wallet and some LCBO locations have refused to sell to me as I lack some proper ID (I don't drive, therefore no licence). Allthough I am 19, I don't look 19. My health card is my only photo ID with a birth date listed, and I am curious if that is valid. Could I use this as ID at the LCBO?

Why not... Theres only one way to find out. Just go in and try to buy something small and see if that works...

yes, but because it also visably displays your health card number people arn't legally allowed to view it

I'm not sure exactly what the law is but I'v been told at several bars, or when trying to buy smokes, that they won't accept my health card as ID because "they're not allowed to view it"

usually if you explain to them it's your only photo ID they'll cut ya a break, but some places are real sticklers about it

I've heard the reason bars/liquor stores/variety stores won't accept your health card as a valid ID is because they want to discourage its use because it contains information that could be vital to your survival and many younger people are tempted to alter their IDs in order to get an early (I did it with my driver's liscense) so if they make it known that it won't be accepted regardless of your age, it cuts down on potential problems.

go to the lcbo and ask them for a form to get the card from them that proves your 19
or just go get your g1, perhaps even learn to drive. its a skill that you may want to take advantage of in the future, which would suck if you had to wait a year to drive after you decided that you wanted to drive
