Are all refined sugars procesed with bone char? I bought this organic cane sugar but maybe it goes through the same process. do you think? are there any sugars that are trully vegan?
white sugar is what goes thru the bone char I believe..sugar is not white..evaporated cane juice is vegan
Depending on which country you live in, cane sugar may be processed with bone char. This is not the case in all countries. Sugar in Australia is all Vegan, for instance. Sugar made from sugar beets is never processed with bone char and is vegan. Turbinado sugar and unbleached sugar is Vegan. A less processed sugar product called Sucanat (evaporated cane juice) is also Vegan. I personally use Turbinado sugar for coffee and unbleached sugar for baking. However, this is not an ingredient that I really check for when shopping. If I were buying flavored syrup for lattes, and I had a choice between Monin (made with pure cane sugar) and Torani (made with corn syrup), I would choose Torani, but the choice would have as much to do with flavor preference as ingredients. I personally think that sugar is one of those bits of minutia that masks the message and intention of being Vegan.
You should try and get Jaggery instead of refined sugar. http://store.indianfoodsco.com/grocery/ProdDesc.cfm?itemid=IFDK45&Description=Jaggery&countryid=&countryname=&countryorderid=
Be advised: Some sugars that advertize themselves as raw are simply plain old bleached sugar re-colored with mollasses. I personally feel the same as mrsshf. Jaggery is nice, so is DATE MOLLASSES! YUMMY!
