hard to say, I just take the style that fits best to the image Im working on. I like Picasso a lot, but not his cubistic stuff. Francis Bacon I adore. dali is wicked, pop-art funny, minimalism I like a lot. Van Gogh is wonderful, so filled with emotions. The material-art of the 70s is great too. African styles too. The Aboriginal dreamings strike me, thats for sure. Egyptian and ancient art in general tells a lot about how to look at things in differend ways, you can follow their influenze uptil now. Asian art is strong too, and those american video artists like Bill Viola (his older stuff), Gary Hill, our Matthew Barney with his Cremaster stuff off course - its like he invents modern mythology - awsome! oh I forgot impressionistic stuff like Renoir, Manet, Monet, Degas I like a lot too. There are so much beautiful opinions in art even beside the works themselfes. Its impossible to pick up one that I like best, play with them - reivent them - rebuild histories but dont ever get stucked in one way of looking I always say.
i can't really take pop art or anything modern. i'm still really stuck in the 15th century. i'm not really a fan of anything modern except chuck close.
whats this about Chuck Close, I like his hyper realistic portraits of the early 70s a lot too, if it would be a photograph I wouldnt like it, but the way he made them on a big canvas attacks me, cant explain why?
yeah. it's definately in the size. his new art is amazing too though. especially since he's in a wheelchair still making the same size portraits with multiple color marks. it's insane.
chuck close's early work was amazing (the portraits with a spray can) but now he seems too be repeating himself.
