Well, after breaking up with my wife of 2 years, I've found that my creative fire is burning again. That part of me was pretty much repressed/ignored while in that relationship, which is kinda sad. But all's well that ends well, I guess.

Anyways, I'm taking up drawing like I've always wanted to. I'm pretty daunted by my utter lack of technique, I have all these amazing things in my head but I'm not really able to make them come to life on paper yet. Can anyone give me some direction as to resources to help me learn some basic skills, or give some advice to someone just starting out?

Heh, I had this other idea, though. I love building things out of mundane objects, and my friend and I are planning to make a life size paper-mache Bender robot, and put male and female symbols in his hands and have him bend them :D , then leave him in the mall or somewhere public. Maybe I'll post pics when we're done...

that's a cool idea for a sculpture. any library should have books on drawing for you. general technique is actually really simple, but takes practice to conquer. it's all basically line quality and tone for black and white drawing. you're probably better starting off black and white until you feel comfortable with how your images are working before you try to do color. it's a lot harder than you think. not at all like children and coloring books. lol. but definately go get some books or take a course. it helps a lot. the best book i've found so far was life drawing techniques of michelangelo. it starts off with basic techniques of drawing but then goes into sophisticated things. you can use the beginning to help you for now. there are also many other books out there that can describe and "show" you the process of drawing.

    Hey Capn.

I started to draw 4 months ago after at least 5 years. I sort of got fucked up with my sculptures and such, and I felt stupid because I graduated an art school and I wasnt able to even put a simple line on paper anymore.

First month I made 100s of sketches on a5 format, in black/white ink, sometimes I added a little red, than I started on A3 format, and use more colors but still only ink and sometimes pencils. From decemcer 30 on I worked on 25x35" paper with charcoal and ink, and last week I moved to 50x50" paper. Im still learning a lot and its still not really ok, but with this way you learn to draw really fast. The past 4 months I made about 800 drawings and over 1200 sketches and now it starts to work ok.
