(The environment forum is one of my favorite forums to read and post on, but there seems to be a shorage of happy posts in the environment forums, so I'd just like add something.)

I don't know how many of you guys live by any kind of forests or anything of the sort, but my house is right next to some rather beautiful woods with a pond in the middle of them. It is just so relaxing and peaceful to just walk through the woods on a pretty day and hear nothing but the wind and the animals. How many people here get to do this on a regular day?

I'm making a point of this because it seems that no matter how upset I get about something or how disgusted with the way people in this world act, I can always go out there and find happiness among nature. It just shows how incredible this world really is...

I live near ruins of an old monastery by the river which is really nice to stroll around. Also plenty of green fields here and there aswell, but to many houses.

    Lucky...

I live in an ugly city and pass a questionably dirty looking river every morning.

Yeah, Detroit isn't a great place to live, even in the suburbs. The city proper is mostly disgusting or run down, and the 'burbs are monotonous. And we don't have tons of parks either, especially not me. I live in basically the middle of this metro area, so I'm far from the Detroit river and Belle Isle Park, and most of the big metroparks are an equal distance away (12-15 miles away). We have other, little parks scattered around but they're nothing special, more often just baseball, soccer, and football fields than actual parks. And since I'm about to sell my truck (due to disuse) and switch to using my bike, it'll make it harder to get to those nice metroparks. Not impossible of course, but it does make me want to go there less, or for a full day rather than just a few hours like when you're in a car. I think the fact that this is the "motor city" explains why everything is so far away. Fucking cars!

Hey trippyb that is awesome that you are switching to biking!
And namaste, Namaste. Thank you for posting this. Today I went on a hike with a bunch of people. The woods were alive and slow-dancing, and they threatened to dissolve my identity as I surrendered to the trees' whispers.

I live about a mile from the ocean. Anytime I'm feeling stressed or down and need to free my mind, I drive to my favorite oceanside spot and take a walk or just sit there looking out into the deep blue. There is something about the ocean that is just so peaceful. The enviroment can be good therapy!

Ah yes, the ocean is beautiful! I don't live near any forrests or anything but I find just looking at the sky is wonderful. When I look at the sky, it reminds me that I'm a part of the earth, its a good feeling.

^I try to do the same. Yesterday evening I was walking home from work, tired and bored, and I looked up and saw the moon. It's almost full, and the sky was very clear so it was shining really bright, even though it wasn't totally dark out yet. I just had to remind myself that it's the same moon shining over the virgin forests and mountainsides where I'd rather have been. Made me feel more connected and not so far away from nature.

Still, the sky itself is pretty far away (well, the moon is. The sky is all around us), so it's sometimes hard for me to really feel this way, because of the great gulf between me and it.

I did Tai Chi and danced naked and sang in the light of the full moon last night! It was fantastical!

You know how the moon has rings around it? Well, last night I looked up at suddenly I noticed that there was a much bigger ring that usual. Not bigger as in width-wise, but with a MUCH larger circumference. If you looked at the moon and it was near the 'top' of the sky, and imagined a silver-white ring with a four-inch radius from the moon (four inch from your perspective looking up), that's kind of what it was like. I look at the moon a lot, and I've never seen that. It was breathtaking.

By the way, the moon was full at 1:24am today. (I'm pretty sure it was '24,' and I know for sure that it was sometime during 1am)

That's the beauty and the magic of existence. Nature has a still wisdom that makes me smile and haunts me all at once. Knowing that no matter what seems to be going wrong in one's life, we still remain connected to everything around us in ways that travel beyond all our problems in significance. I've been craving spring now for the past few weeks, because I miss those days I'd pack a picnic and head on out to my favorite apple orchard... it just fills me with peace and happiness everytime I'm there.

can't wait for spring either, going to start a garden and hopefully remove the rest of the cement walkways from my yard and plant grass instead.

I love going for walks in the forest, finding a spot and just being...
