yeah I watched some of them, cause here in LIthuania sometimes they show it on TV.....My parents like's to watch them to remember old days.....
Finally! Someone!!! I bloody love Russian cinema, lutcheye kino v mire! Shurik is always hilarious, The Diamond Arm, even after a million times of watching it is wonderful..."ves pokritey zelenyu, obsolyutna ves...ostrov nevezenya vokeane yest"... Ivan Vasliliavitch Minayet Pofesiyu is wonderful, Pokrovskiye Varota is just so well thought off, so well acted. Gentelmeni Udache is just such plain and honest humour... "ridiska". On the Dramas... solaris is amazing, the American version was such a sdisappointment, completely idiotic. Moskva Slezam Ne Veret is my favorite movie of all time, you just fall in love with Gosha, his character... Alexandra is wonderful, such a story... and the soundtrack...lovely! I didn't truly like Cibirskiy Tziyurnik. Neobaknavenya Chuda is wonderful as well, such a great plot. Brat is a wonderful modern movie, great cinematogprahy, and amazing soundtrack. And the Three Musketeers... common, just the song... "para para paraduyemsya na svayom viku..." I would also put "kin-za-za" in comedy, such a wonderful movie, defenatly my favorite russian comedy.....Ku!!! And Animation... Kapitan Vrungal was wonderful "Beda"..... Ostrov sokrovesh was also greatly done. Bremenskeye MUsikante was my favorite cartoon as a child... "nechevo na svetye lutche netu, chem brodit druzyam po belu svetu"... If you haven't seen this one, you defenatly should, a relatively new movie, a drama/comedy.....Dom Durakov...it's amazing. Ahh...the memories...that you for posting this
I have seen "House of Fools", great movie with a cool soundtrack by Brian Adams. Have you seen "The Return" or "Russian Ark"?
Ku!! But somehow tha intonation does not translate well on the net. Tis a shame! Äâåíàäöàòü ñòóëüåâ - "Bender" (teehee) is my hero. Òîò ñàìûé Ìþíõãàóçåí - for some reason always makes me cry...great acting there. Ñòàëêåð / Stalker - Love it! But simply because I love the book...
I LOVE House of Fools, particularly after I realized the message it portrayed - you know, that the whole world is a house of fools, and we are it's inmates, because we are all good, flawed people, like the inmates of the asylum. It made me think. . .
A bit off topic, I've recently made a page that lists English language movies that are based on Russian books. So far I have 26 titles listed. And I'm trying to find more. The ones I really liked are: Lolita, Onegin & Doctor Zhivago. Would appreciate any help with the ones I've missed.
You cannot truly call "Lolita" A Russian book, Nabokov wrote it when he was in France (I believe), and it gained much more popularity in English.
its a very interesting topic, its very interesting to read this, because i was born in russia, i didn't know that russian films are popular in other countries...
The only Russian film i've seen is 'Battleship Potemkin'. But i'm really interested in Eisenstein's work, i'd like to see his other movies; 'Strike', 'October 1917' and 'Ivan the Terrible'. Another movie that i really want to see is Andrei Rubiev, i heard that it's one of the best movies of all time.
The only Russian film that comes to mind is "War and Peace" released in 1968 directed by Sergei Bondarchuk. 2 versions are available on DVD, but the one I recommend is the 5 disc from Ruscico Cinema Council. This version has a much better-cleaner letterbox picture, 5.1 Surround sound, different language sound tracks including the original Russian and optional different language subtitles (including English). This version of "War and Peace" was shown on American TV (ABC Network) in the early 70's. Took about 4 nights to complete. I hadn't heard anything else about this film until I was in Shanghai China in Nov. 2001. One night I was channel surfing just before going to bed when I came accross Napolean's retreat. The film was in Russian with Chinese Subtitles. Also being shown on a different channel was "Star Wars".
I have seen a few classics, Eisentein's Battleship Potemkin, Ivan the Terrible, Tarkovsky's Andrei Rublev (one of my all time favorites). I would love to see some more! any suggestions? top 3 please.
Have any of you seen "Night watch"? It's a very good Russian Sci-Fi / Fantasy movie. It's been out on DVD for some time, but since Fox bought all American distribution rights, they have mandated to stop making NTSC formatted dvds of it. The disk has been slowly disappearing from even Russian stores in America. And Fox kept postponing the release (next week), while sequel "Day Watch" is already out in Russia. Aren't US movie studios grand
"Night watch" is the most popular movie in Russia nowadays (And "Day Watch", too) i love it.. new era of russian cinematography starts with "Night Watch"
