im having a little trouble building my portfolio at the moment, ive shown it at a college interview they have asked my to come back in a few weeks to show more 'diverse' work. i cant get past drawing faces, hands and household objects(taps, candlesticks etc.). any tips on what to add would be a huge help.

try different styles. Thats probably what they mean. if you have a portfolio full of hundreds of beautifully drawn images of lots of different subjects all instill life pencils - realism they would probably be less interested than if you had say 20 images of a mix of different experimentations of things.

When you are applying for courses they want to know you are open to trying new things and leanring new things.

Play with paint, with wax. maybe even with some sculptural elements, like building off the page. for example even if you are applying for a painting course, they would be interested in seeing sketches, and sculptural work because it shows a diverse idea of the person.

Also maybe take in some writing or poetry or photography.
