why are hippies famous for what they are famous for?

I was think that why when u grow your hair, you get called a hippie, others hippie - drugs, other probably more hip people hippie - environmentally friendly, other hippie - dirty,

can someone shed light light on this point
(also there must be lots of hippies about because the word gets used in everyday conversation a lot)

dude...i can't even comprehend what you just said because your sentences are so bad.

 

all i am saying is some people associate hippie, with long hair, drugs etc.
others associcate us with environmentally friendly etc

so why are we thought of like this?

 

its all about your intrepations of what you percieve the hip culture to be about. some people have been informed that it was a rebellious movement that propectuated drug use, others that it was about freedom and liberation, others about peace and love. and there are many people who just see anyone with long hair as liberal or a "drug" user. depends on what your exposed to really. i hope this helped and i wish you much love, luck, and happiness in the journey that is your life.

Right. Like the other day, I wanted my ex-goth sisters peace sign necklace but she wouldn't give it to me. So I argued with her that it means nothing because she sure doesn't spread no peace, and was called a "hippie".
