I've made some great knit things (if i do say so myself) and want to sell them, online being my easiest bet. I just want to make sure there's a market for it. So, would you or wouldn't you?
well... i personally probably wouldn't. only because i knit. it's tricky, especially if you are talking bigger, more time consuming projects. most of the people who really appreciate the time and energy (not to mention the cost of yarn) that it takes to make different items are knitters themselves. they'd be more likely to think 'i can make that' rather than 'i'd buy that'. i think a lot of people (not all) who don't craft would wonder why buy it from you when they can get it cheaper at <insert evil national chain store here>. it's sad.but i could be completely off here. i do think there's a niche for it though, and if you can reach it, good for you. there are people out there who appreciate buying items from the artist. good luck with this if you decide to do it.
I love knitted things when its cold, and I don't knit alot. I have a friend who does and shes really good so I usually trade sewn stuff for knit stuff because I have seen her work up close and know it will last. Sometimes you just don't know online. BUT I have bought a few knitted things from folks(in fact I'm wearing my crochet tam I got off ebay a couple years ago, right now)
Well I am a crocheter, but there is definitely a market for both crochet and knit items. Lots of people who sell on Etsy are doing well with those items. I've been selling my crochet items for many years now and although I don't make a living at it (yet), I do okay and can make extra cash. My hats sell much better than my scarves, but I know people who sell more scarves than hats...so who knows how that works out.
the chinese sweat shops have an eliminating well? Sounds very game show-esqe.... how fun! Let me know if they use the well on you, eh Cerridwen? I sell a lot of knitted good to my friends... and friends friends. Basically, it all word of mouth. I don't sell much on the internet.
ah, that's what I was afraid of... I catch myself thinking that too, and sadly it has stopped me from buying many things. damn! they have to suck up the aftermarket on everything! thanks I'll give it a go nonetheless.
I would definitely buy knitted stuff, as a student it's a staple of my wardrobe, and I'm totally incapable of knitting! Personally I would rather buy one nice hand-made knitted thing than three or four cheap chain store ones, but that might just be me!
