Now, I hurt my leg lets say when I went back to India , made a huge big fuss about it and everybody thought these "Americans" are so fragile... but then my cousin who lives in India had the same problem a month back , no body really cared, so you tell me who has a bigger problem .

Ovulation, conception, menstruation, pregnancy, lactation are all complicated body functions. Men basically make sperm, and have good muscle tone. That's what they are made for (and there's nothing wrong with that. ;)) Womyn appear to have more health problems, most likely related to hormones and the body's need to support a pregnancy. After the age of menopause, men actually have more health problems and usually die younger. More hearth disease ect.

In infancy, male babies are actually more likely to die than female babies,(and more male fetuses die before birth) once menstration starts, womyn are more vulnerable, then when menopause takes place, men seem to have more health problems again.

at least we are very seldom color blind. I really think that would suck.

Womyn had to do most of the gathering of food for most of our past. (and present, for many people now) Womyn NEED to see color, in order to see when fruit and nuts are ripe, to keep themselves and their tribes and their families fed and healthy. Color vision isn't as important for hunting. But, muscle strength is.

Actually color blindedness is an X linked recessive trait, that means that it is on the X chromosome and if you get two copies of this colorblindedness trait then you are color blind. Women are lucky by nature because they have two Xs so if there is a good X, then that dominates. Where as a male is hemizygous for color blinded ness in that he will have only one X. So that is the only copy he has so that is expressed :).

Women naturally have a higher % of body fat than men, something like 10% more. That could be part of the problem. Women go to see doctors more, so they live longer on average, so I don't know. I think Maggie is right.

I'm colorblind, and its not really that bad. Males are actually colorblind for a reason, it helps us spot animals or anything that is trying to camoflauge itself in bushes, grass, or whatever. I have an article on it touching my mouse pad. The article calls it an evolutionary relic, but is it? I think it could still prove very useful. About 10% of males are colorblind. I can still see color.

What sucks about it is when I go to national parks or other beautiful places, some of the things in nature aren't quite as appealing as they are to other people. I wonder if it has affected my appriciation for art, or the lack thereof.

I don't know if women get more problems, or that men are just less inclined to talk about it. They, too, can have health problems -some of the serious ones like a higher risk of heart disease but also more chronic back pain and the like from physical jobs (although women are definitely catching up in that department the more women are taking 'male' jobs with heavy lifting involved). And in the end women do live longer on average, so whatever we have and whatever they have, I don't think I wanna trade!

No, I really think women are just more inclined to talk about problems in general, while men generally keep it bottled up. I bet you'd see more women posting if you tallied the emotional support/advice/etc posts on Hipforums, too.

I think Myranya may have a point. I does definitely seem that women have more problems, but then they are much more inclined to talk about their problems than men! After all, women quite freely discuss menstruation problems etc, but men are quite shy about their equivalent problems

Talking wont save you, going to a doctor will. Women go to the doctor more than men, which is why they live longer I think.

color blindness is a blessing, in a way. a sort of evolutionary trade-off: color blind people see better in the dark & see movement better. as a northern european male hunting in a dark forest, perfect color vision doesn't do you much good. an ability to differentiate the grays, however, is VERY much more handy. not quite as necessary for the ladies, and as gatherers and in childcare color sight is more important. so colorblind men of the world, bask in your evolutionary step up. you'll tend to be better in sports that require visual acuity, too.

oh, also, it's a generally well-know fact that men suffer a great deal of problems but don't take care of them, it not being macho. my husband would probably be dead if i wasn't around to force him to see the doctor on occaision. it's true for a lotta men.

    Yeah, mine, too.
Me: "Honey, that place where you got hit by your truck is, like, oozing pus and the size of a 18 inch softball, I think we NEED to go to the hospital."
Him: "Give it a few days. I'll be fine." a few minutes later I hear stifled screams coming from the bathroom.
Me:"WE ARE GOING TO THE HOSPITAL!!!!"
Him: "wimper......OK...........But I'm not getting a cast. I don't care what they say." (He got a brace......)

    Amen.

Considering that doctors are always trying to shove their fingers in different places... forget it.

I went to a doctor once. They were incompetent.

WOW, I like the way that Maggie Sugar and Jedi have covered colorblindness, haven't thought of it like that b4.

Just wanna clarify with Myranya that as women have different symptoms for heart disease, heart disease in females is usually misdiagnosed and sometimes not taken seriously.

Having a higher % of body fat is NOT a bad thing. In highschool dance classes I found myself gazing at so many beautiful bodies... and they were all female, for a long long time I preferred the female form over the male form, with the baby fat softening the edges and giving nice, smooth, graceful lines. I'm in my thirties now and have since lost my baby fat, I'm quite sinuous, I miss my baby fat :(

Maggie Sugar mentioned that after the age of menopause men seem to have more health problems. Men tend to have more sexual problems, ie erectile dysfunction at this age, tho women have a higher incidence of inorgasm (inability to orgasm) at any age, so it works out the same.

Keep in mind a lot of "male" problems are either injury related or things doctors don't want to treat.

I think men have just as many problems, but try not to dwell on it.

It's like my boyfriend and I can both be sick with the same thing at the same time, but he will act like nothing is wrong because he doesn't want to draw attention to it. And it's not just a macho thing, but it's also that I think guys just generally worry a little bit less than women do.

Growing up with my brother and dad, my mom, and my grandma...I have noticed drastic differences between the two genders and how they handle it. My dad and brother would have this "if I dont think about it, it will go away" idea...where my mom and grandma would immediately get worried and take medicine, or go to the doctor.

But, I have to disagree that women live longer than men because they go to the doctor a lot....while that mayyyy be true, I think that going to the doctor often can actually sometimes be more damaging than good.

All those perscriptions and what not may help you get over illness, but I don't believe they are any good for your health. But that's just me.

Well, say what you like--but who lives longer?

OK, could be true that women get more of the little stuff, but when it's a question of heart disease and stroke and cancer it's the men who get hit at younger ages.

I believe it's also true that most miscarriages during pregnancy occur when the fetus is male.

The question I'd like to hear answered is, if men took care of themselves as well as women do, including avoiding dangerous behavior, how much of the difference in life expectancy would disappear?
