I dont know, I just had a really weird thought. If you got a bunch of people together and went to an anti-war protest, what would happen? What if people shouted "support the war!" and "President Bush is right!" to the anti-war people? Would they be hostile? That would be strange because anti-war people are not supposed to be hostile, right?
I'm sorry, but this thread is a waste of space when a more productive article could be posted here. Can we discuss something worthwhile?
I think the OP could be worded better, but it brings up an interesting point. Many times so called peace advocates become angry, and sometimes violent when faced with alternative view points. Its a good point. Too bad your narrow mind is so willing to dismiss it as a stupid post.
With the type of education kids get today "and the last few decades" very few well protest . specially the DUMB generation of the late 80s 90s "MTV dead brains".
Also most large city police dept have spent millions in anti riot equipment and also take video and digital pictures so they know who the main key players are. is not the 1960s any more. Protester this day must spend large amount of money to counter react the police dept ""including self defense weapons".
Yeah, just like you can't prank phone call anyone anymore because of caller ID. I can definitely see rabid liberals ripping out the throats of some "upstart republicans" if given the slightest impetus, though. What could be more worthwhile than having another outlook on a topic--and such an interesting one at that?
yes maybe we could debate why you are such a dick. lets protest against changin times. I know.... I'm in with the government. I'm part of the conspiracy right.
It all depends. In my country, its the "ferals" (auusie nickname for people with alternative lifestyles) who protest anything and everything and get fairly violent for strange reasons (drugs mostly). These are usually small scale protests comprised of a few sensible people and a large number of immature misguided hippies. They get really hostile and make peace loving hippies look bad. Large scale, well organised (but still grassroots) anti-war protests tend to be different. I've seen large majorities of sensible and intelligent peace loving folk stage highly effective peaceful marches who would probably do nothing to pro-war supporters but simply shout louder. Thats how it is based on my experience. Don't know how it is in the U.S. With the fierce hatred being passed between "right" and "left", I could imagine such a scene getting violent.
I think it would really depend on the individuals. Just like in the 60's, there were violent anti-war protests, particularly in the beggining of the protesting, or at least to my knowledge (if I am wrong, please tell me). I believe there would be people there that would go over and start physically fighting with the right-wingers. I think that there would be a lot of people opposing those people who are responding with violence. Unless you got a group of like-minded people on the subject, I don't think you would ever have similiar results. In our culture, there are several differant types of people who are part of the left. You have the hippies, the punks, and just people from all walks of life. It wouldn't be a bunch of hippies holding signs, you would also have the green day kids there too, who may tend to get a little more violent. In fact, in its begginings, particularly in the UK where punk-rock was more political, the lifestyle was intended to be fairly violent. Not in war, but in regular life causing riots, and fights and things like that. But I think if you got a large group of nothing but peace loving hippies who get all their anti-violence views from Ghandi, then you will have something non-violent.
Just about every anti-war protest has the Flag Wavers there. This is not a new idea. Anybody remember the movie "Joe" in the late 60s about the Hippy Hating construction worker? He wore a hard hat with a flag on it. He was one of these people. The movie was originally intended as a parody, but the Conservatives latched on to Joe as an "American Hero." It was so silly, that they were idolizing someone who was protrayed as an obvious imbecile.
