Edit: I made one. Eh it's kind of wonky looking because I finally learned how to do a double crochet stitch after all these years(I'm pathetic...all these years I've been doing single crochet because I couldn't figure out how to double crochet and then the other night it just clicked in my head! sheesh). Anywho, here it is:

A couple of weeks ago I bought a pound of that Peaches & Creme cotton yarn (I'm always buying craft supplies without a specific idea in mind). I have a set of Knifty Knitters and saw on the website a project for making wash cloths. I'm tinking about making a few, some will probably be crocheted and others will probably be on the KK.

Here's the question: Has anyone used wash cloths made out of cotton yarn? I think on the KK website it said something about using them to wash your body or to wash a baby. I usually use wash cloths to wash my face at night. I'm just wondering if maybe they would be kind of harsh on facial skin(well, since they would be thicker than cotton wash cloths you can buy).

Now this question is more of a broader question that deals with the yarn itself: Can you wash stuff made with cotton yarn buy tossing it in the washing machine and dryer or would you have to hand wash it and line dry it(I imagine that it would take more than a day to dry)?

Heh, these are probably stupid questions, but I figure that all you crafty folks would know more about this and be more helpful than trying to hunt down all this information and come up with just yarn company sites on a search engine.

I use cottom for my dishcloths and facecloths. I also wash them just as you would a regular cotton towel. They hold up great and are wonderful and soften over time with washing.

One thing though about color.... the bright colored cotton yarn tends to fade pretty quickly. The fiesta ombre bleeds and I don't use it any more. The muted colors I haven't had any issues with bleeding or fading.

I have a KK but have never used it. I crochet everything.

I made a dishcloth out of bright blue cotton yarn and it bled like crazy for a few washes....be careful of your laundry...;)

Hipmoon- Thank you for the information! Just what I wanted to hear! :D
BTW: I think crochet is better for most projects anyways, darn KK causes you to use too much yarn unless you want something really loose knit and "gappy."

Chiana20- Moi? Nah, I haven't made any yet(school has kept me super busy lately). Ah, but tonight I might try working on one. :)

daisymae- Oh yikes! Mine yarn is a varigated blue/off white(eh, "denim" as the label calls it). Thanks for the warning, hehe. :)

Welp, I made one. I guess I'll try it tonight when I wash my face before going to bed. If I don't like it for that purpose, I'll just use it as a dish cloth.
