Hi all, Sorry if this has been posted before :) But the situation is desperate...I'm becoming a mozzie smorgasboard! What are any natural oils or something that I can use to keep mozzies from biting me (apart from using citronella candles). I hate using bug spray but its all I have at the moment! Thanks in advance.

my parents use the skin so soft mosquito repellant, it's apparently natural. I also know that they are attracted to banana's so you can use one to get them away from you and at the banana(must be very ripe). The fabric softener sheets work for me, but they are not natural. I usually just wear clothes and cover up. if they are really bad just chose your times to go outside or to do certain activities to reduce your exposure to them.

Being calm, they're attracted to carbon dioxide. Then blow up a few bloons away from your camp with really small leaks. ISGTMIDKIIRWT

if you have a couple weeks before you venture into mosquito territory, start eating LOTS of garlic. after 2 weeks of garlic consumption, a slight smell of garlic will totally keep skeeters away from you. i guess it comes out through the pores in your skin. a travelling hippie told me that.

here's a recipe from my favorite herbal:

    1part bay leaves
    2parts rosemary leaves
    4parts pennyroyal leaves
    1part eucalyptus leaves

take dried herbs & place in jar with enough olive oil to completely cover (with an extra inch or two above herbs). cover & steep in a sunny warm place for at least two weeks. strain & add a drop or two of eucalyptus or pennyroyal essential oil to strengthen scent. this is a lovely oil suitable for animals or humans & it really does work!!!!

I would try SSS (Skin So Soft) from Avon. The buggies don't like.. Not one little bit. I remember when I was little my Mama use to tell me to put it on before going to the lake to keep the buggies off. It works and it's got this oil base in it so that way if you go swimming, the SSS is still on your skin. I use it to this day, it works so well. The mosquito's will stand back.. :) Danny

I noticed no one mentioned taking plenty of B-12 vitamins. Is that no longer true? I take them everyday, especially during the summer and the bastards don't bother me. If I forget then yeah, they bite but they seem to stay away.

I do like Josai's idea as well. My understanding is pennyroyal is an insect repellant of some sort.

Don't forget to have some citronella around-anti-bug agent works real well when you start burning it just before the sun goes down. I found that works great!

well it's Shenendoah knoledge that it's true that if you drink a bunch of extract of poisen ivy over a period of time before summer, you are immune to poisen ivy all summer long, no matter how allergic you think you may be to it.
maybe if you just eat a bunch of mosquitos they'll leave you alone!

yeah, it totally works & fun to make too, but like other naturals, it takes some re-applying. i kept mine in a little spray bottle, so i could easily add-on
you're right....pennyroyal is such a beautiful ally. i planted some last year right near a garden path & ir smells so good when you're passing by....she doesn't mind to be stepped on just a bit....MmmMMmm minty!

    Skin-so-soft is good, I agree.

But, if you want natural, rubbing an onion on yer skin works quite well too. Old trick. :D

adding the ticture or essential oil of wormwood in the skitter spray would be of as it is a strong natural insecticide and great for the skin/body. Possibly some extract of beet pollen of the right voracity to act as the binder ! (which is hard to obtain, as explained in tom robbins 'jitterbug perfume') but would be weeeeeelll worth it....it would last all day long! Would want to add a little jasmine to counter the voracity of the beet pollen perhaps
yes! all plants like to be rubbed, and some just like it rough (in regard to pennyroyal) lmao
