I have been unemployed since November and went into overdraft recently..... well my bank took another $612 out of my account for some "research adjustment" I went to the bank and flipped out in my little way. I almost started crying and told the guy how I am unemployed and there is no way in hell I can get that money.......

WTF SHOULD I DO?! I am so mad and upset at this whole situation about my bank fucking me over backwards and forwards and all directions :( My bad week is getting worse :(

I'd look deeper into the $612 and ask them wtf they think they're doing. What "research" have you been doing?

i'd be a little weary on this "research adjustment" (whatever the fuck that means?)

maybe you can set up a payment plan with them...i really don't know...but i hope it works out

I asked them, I nearly lost it sitting in the bank. I am so royally fucked if they can't give me that back...... I have no idea what is going on. I hate being in the dark like this :(

    Word to the wise:

As long as you are paying them something, ANYTHING, they can't send you to collections. Send those fuckers $5 a month and tell them it's all you have, you're unemployed. As long as you're attempting to make good on the debt, they can't do shit about it.

they shouldn't be keeping you in the dark...you have a right to know where the money went and what its being used for...

i'd keep hounding them until you get answers

Yeah, that makes little sense. I know you're angry, but the best thing for you to do is calm down. People react to you the same way you are reacting at them, and if you swear and curse and cry, they're going to feel like there is no control over the situation and will react in the same way as you. The best thing for you to do is calm down, and then look at this reasonably. I know you don't want to hear that and I think you have every right to be furious, but it doesn't help the situation.

First off, do you have ANY papers whatsoever that might have given you any inclination as to this happening? Any forwarning or messages telling you of this happening over the past few weeks? I would think that an amount that great would require some forwarning, legally.

Also, whom did you speak to at the bank? A teller, or your personal finance person? If you are unsatisfied with that, you have every right to speak to the manager.

Do you have any proof of your unemployment, or any credit to your name? Do you have anything that you could take in and show them that you are responsible with your money and this "research adjustment" is not acceptable at this time? Do you have any dependants or any financial obligations under your belt (a mortgage or car loan you've been paying)? Just something to show that you are mature and able to handle your finances. Do you have any proof that you are searching for employment? Basically, when you go back in, you want to prove to them that you are under control of the situation, but that this "research adjustment" fee is not acceptable at this time.

I would definitely try to get a monthly payment plan set up with them. But first and foremost, I'd like a good, down-to-earth dumb as dirt explanation as to what the hell a "research adjustment" is. And if it is something that you have no control over and that they do to everyone, I'd like proof of that. And I'd like proof of how this benefits you, why you need it, etc. You have every right to ask as many stupid questions as you like -- you can tell them "There is no such thing as a stupid question" -- and they have to answer them to you -- you are the consumer and without your business, they shut down. If you don't have a satisfactory visit, you are able to close your accounts and get them transferred to another account when you have some more money.

    Good luck, keep us posted.

Haha, like unlock my house? :p Thanks again Adam :D

Anywho I did talk to the manager at the bank and he said he would be calling me back, fuck I just realized that my answering machine is unplugged, great. I have no proof of being unemployed other then the fact that I have not been getting direct deposit..... which they never informed that I had to continue on getting. They never informed me that they were researching anything either. Fuck I am mad but it will all be okay. My mom is coming over and staying the night and getting yummy food :D

I am a student as well, my schedule isn't just open all of the time. Unemployment here sucks with all of the job layoffs in the auto industry. Middle age men and women are more qualified and have more time for the smaller retail jobs so they get the job that I would normally get. It isn't rocket science bud, if you can find me a job have it. I have been looking since November and applied to a little over fifty places with not one call back.

well em... first of all, you need to find out exactly what this "research adjustment" is.... and if it's even legal. like the one person said on the first page, get them to explain it in terms you will definantly understand and yes..make them explain it to you. it seems shady to me.

second, you might not be able to take a job you like right away but there is always some job... you just might not want it (trust me... i know, haha... think about where i work, but i mean i got to move up into management in a month so even the shit jobs can get better)- but my point is, you might have to look at things you dont want to do until you can find something that you do want to do.

    ;)

jk... id go in there and talk to a manager in a calm tone and find out exactly what is going on and weigh my options reasonably. also, id use credit for a while if i had to.
and id get a job, even if it sucked.
